Job Summary :

The Communications & Community Engagement Administrator is responsible for developing and executing strategic communication plans to enhance the image, reputation, communication and understanding of the school district.

This role involves marketing, branding, and storytelling to effectively communicate the district's vision, strategic priorities, achievements, and initiatives to various stakeholders including students, parents, employees, media, and the community at large.

This district leader oversees the Communications & Community Engagement Team which exists to build and strengthen relationships between Weber School District and its patrons and to enhance employee and student recognition efforts.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Strategic Communication Planning :
  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with the district's goals and objectives and enhance the district’s presence and engagement with the community.
  • Create and manage an annual communications calendar, ensuring timely and consistent messaging.
  • Marketing and Branding :
  • Oversee the creation and execution of marketing campaigns to promote district programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain the district’s brand identity, ensuring consistent use across all communications and materials.
  • Oversee and manage the district’s style guide (district / school logos, colors)
  • Produce high-quality marketing materials including publications / brochures, newsletters, logos, graphics and video productions.
  • Storytelling, Content Creation and Management :
  • Be responsible for the creation and curation of content across Weber School District website and social media platforms, telling the district’s story effectively.
  • Identify and tell compelling stories, utilizing videography, that highlight the successes and unique aspects of the district, its schools, students, and staff.
  • Manage and update content on the district’s website and social media platforms.
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration :
  • Lead the district’s Communications & Community Engagement Team and direct its efforts to more positively brand Weber School District and feature happenings, successes and employee and student recognitions.
  • Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff across the district to align engagement and outreach with broader educational and community goals.
  • Support the School Safety & Community Relations Specialist who will :
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, fostering positive relationships with local and regional media outlets.
  • Coordinate press conferences, media briefings, and interviews.
  • Monitor media coverage and respond to inquiries promptly and accurately.
  • Write and edit press releases, speeches, articles, and other communications to effectively convey the district’s messages.
  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans to manage and mitigate risks.
  • Provide timely and accurate information during emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Internal Communications :
  • Develop internal communication strategies to keep staff informed and engaged.
  • Produce and distribute internal newsletters and updates.
  • Facilitate communication between the district administration and school sites.
  • Community Engagement :
  • Plan and execute, with district and school leaders community engagement initiatives to foster positive relationships between the district and its stakeholders.
  • Help organize and promote district events, including open houses, town hall meetings, and other community activities.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Digital Media, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
  • An applicable Master’s degree and Administrative Supervisory Certification are preferred.
  • Highly skilled in video production, editing, photography, photo editing and graphic design using industry-standard software.
  • Strong knowledge of business concepts, economics, accounting, marketing, and entrepreneurship.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using digital communication tools and social media platforms.
  • Understanding of communication through various social media platforms.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
  • Experience in video production.
  • Experience in media relations and crisis communication is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the education sector and familiarity with K-12 public education systems is a plus.
  • Ability to maintain professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission and adherence to district policies.
