WEINGART CENTER is Hiring a SUD Counselor - Interim Housing Program Near Los Angeles, CA

Weingart Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency headquartered in Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) providing services to individuals experiencing homelessness, is hiring for a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor. The SUD Counselor provides counseling services and is responsible for the overall documentation and maintenance of client/participant records. Reporting to the Lead Clinician and/or Senior Director of Clinical Services and Programs Director, this position will also be responsible for tracking the progress of clients/participants for an extended period (up to six months or longer).

Weingart Center's Interim Housing Program provides safe, secure shelter, meals, and case management on a 24-hour basis for adults experiencing homelessness. Our multiple sites incorporate low barrier, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction policies and procedures into their program design and housing operations.

This is an on-site, in office position, working a 40-hour shift, Monday to Friday.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:

  • You have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in the field of social services with a criminal justice population, substance abuse, mental health and dual diagnosis treatment and service delivery to homeless and/or low-income individuals.
  • You have a bachelor’s degree in social services preferred, or a combined minimum of two (2) years' relevant social services experience.
  • You have a current Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) certification issued by the California Certification Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors, or Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor (CATC) certification. (Note: bachelor’s degree in human services not a substitute for certification requirement).
  • You have demonstrated abilities in management of multiple projects and priorities essential.
  • You are empathetic and have excellent listening skills.
  • You have extensive knowledge of social service, welfare, legal, corrections, health care, substance abuse, alcoholism, mental health care, and other systems associated with target population.
  • You have good listening skills, and possess clear, complete speech and communication skills.
  • You have a strong ability to advocate successfully on behalf of the client/participant.
  • If you have bilingual fluency in English/Spanish, that's a plus!

Weingart Center no longer requires (though highly recommends) position incumbent to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as defined and mandated by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the Department of Health Services of Los Angeles County (DHS), and the California Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1973 (Cal/OSHA) effective August 4, 2023. However, this mandate may be reinstated at any time as recommended by these governing agencies.
