Position Summary:
We are looking for a Maintenance Automation Technician to join our Maintenance department with our Lawton, Michigan team. The candidate must be able to demonstrate high level of proficiency in instrumentation & controls maintenance for all plant production, processing, and seasonal equipment to meet established production requirements.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Understand and troubleshoot electrical control systems used in production operations.
  • Maintain effective communication with operations and maintenance personnel to prevent recurring issues and optimize equipment performance.
  • Program, troubleshoot, and configure Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), PC-based controls, and hardwired/networked variable frequency drives.
  • Understand PLC ladder logic.
  • Troubleshoot and replace networked devices, operator interface panels, servo motors, AC/DC motor controls, and any control devices supporting automated production equipment.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair electronic equipment such as ground fault systems, recorders, and controllers.
  • Understand PLC ladder logic.
  • Read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams (construction and schematics).
  • Install conduit, wiring, control panels, and control centers.
  • Install, repair, and service automatic control devices like photoelectric equipment and proximity switches.
  • Install and repair power and control wiring.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex electrical circuits.
  • Install, validate, and troubleshoot various types of hardware like flow meters, pressure transducers, and weigh systems.
  • Perform all preventative maintenance tasks for electrical equipment and controls.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot plant communication equipment.
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document work orders, parts usage, and equipment information.
Has responsibilities in the following areas:
  • HACCP - adhere to all requirements for Welch's employees as outlined in Corporate and Lawton HACCP Manual.
  • SQF - Adhere to all requirements for Welch's employees as outlined in Corporate and Lawton SQF Manual.
  • Food Defense - Adhere to all requirements for Welch's employees as outlined in Corporate and Lawton Food Defense Manual
  • Regular use of hands to feel or handle and regular reaching with hands and arms
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and kneeling
  • Occasional lifting of 50 lbs
  • Other duties required contributing to the achievement of group goals in the areas of safety, quality, appearance, reliability, cost and continuous improvement.
  • Self-motivation with little direction is key.
  • Must be able to work well with others.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Who Are You:
  • Safety focused with a proven ability to safely work on and around complex, highly automated machinery.
  • A collaborative team player with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Skilled in troubleshooting Electrical, PLC, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Motors, Motion Control, and mechanical systems.
  • Proactive and able to work independently.
What You'll Need:
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • Certification in instrumentation and process control is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 2 years related, applicable experience in machine maintenance and repair.
  • Applicants must pass our standard test, the minimizer (do-nothing machine), maintenance test, and electrical basics test.
  • Food Manufacturing in juice processing, pasteurization, blending, and consumer packaging preferred or related industry experience.
  • Proficiency in working with Allen-Bradley PLC's and using RS Logix software
  • ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix
  • IO and communication networks including Ethernet/IP
  • Proficiency in working with HMI's including Allen-Bradley Panelview Plus
  • Experience with:
    • Instrumentation devices such as flowmeters, RTD's and pressure transmitters
    • Discrete devices such as photoeyes, proximity sensors and solenoid valves
    • Product ID devices such as bar-code scanners and machine vision cameras.
    • circuits, relays, and field devices
    • Motor starters, variable frequency drives and motors
    • Power distribution
  • Exposure to regulatory requirements like FSMA, SQF, HACCP
