Job DescriptionYou will be responsible for leading the technology division’s efforts to implement advanced analytics, optimization, measurement, and predictive modeling to support operational decisions and problem-solving. Lead the development and maintenance of division analytical data assets to support the creation of models, visualization, and decision support tools. Define and apply data science, statistics, machine learning, and business acumen to develop and implement strategies that enhance decision-making, improve operational processes, and foster innovation across the division. Oversee a team providing guidance and leadership to ensure the successful execution of analytical projects and initiatives.
QualificationsRequired:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or direct and applicable work experience (preferred STEM or quantitative discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Finance, Operations Research).
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as an analyst role with applied advanced analytics (e.g. statistical modeling, machine learning or other deep learning) OR advanced degree in data science, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or analytics related field.
  • Proficiency in data analytics and modeling tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL, TensorFlow, SAS).
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex data insights into strategic recommendations and communicate these to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Leadership skills typically gained through a combination of project or informal leadership that demonstrates competencies.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator, able to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly motivated, with a passion for excellence and innovation in analytics.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the capability to gather data and develop and effectively communicate solutions to all levels of the organization; consult with stakeholders.
  • Competent in prioritization and time management skills with the ability to perform, document, and or guide others through a series of related steps where the sequence and order of each step is important to the flow of work, where accuracy and timeliness are critical.
Preferred:
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA).
  • Familiarity with data warehousing, big data technologies, and cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
Additional Information
  • Provide leadership and day-to-day management of divisional analytics, focusing on employee coaching, development, performance improvement, and department(s) specific functions/services. Support corporate and division objectives and produce results that are effective, accurate, timely, and on target to meet leadership and operational needs.
  • Lead the development and deployment of advanced analytical models, including predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and statistical analyses to solve complex business problems and identify new value.
  • Utilize optimization techniques to improve operational efficiency, enhance customer experiences, and maximize business value.
  • Establish robust measurement frameworks and KPIs to monitor and evaluate the performance of division operations and initiatives. Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on in-depth analysis of data.
  • Manage and mentor a team of data analysts and scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning. Ensure the team has the skills and tools necessary to execute on projects effectively.
  • Act as a partner between the team and other departments within the division, ensuring that data insights and recommendations are communicated clearly and are actionable. Work closely with leadership, including member experience, agile program office, cloud, architecture and engineering, security and others to embed data-driven decisions with teams and processes.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the division’s analytical infrastructure in partnership with architecture, information products and business analytics teams. Evaluate and adopt new technologies and methodologies to enhance analytical capabilities.
  • Manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and support corporate and division and improvement initiatives, meeting timeframes. Provide consultation to team members and other Wellmark departments regarding appropriate use of data and reporting of business process metrics.
  • Develop and coach analysts to appropriately extract, analyze, interpret and integrate data using internal and external data sources to develop intelligence and to draw conclusions.
  • Drive continuous improvements and manage change to meet evolving stakeholder analytics/consulting needs by conducting on-going stakeholder analysis and implementing innovative solutions to achieve improved satisfaction with reporting, analytical, and consulting services.
  • Support and contribute to enterprise standards, business rules and definitions of operational data. Collaborate with stakeholders on the definition, design, execution, and maintenance of data extracts to meet critical business requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy and protection regulations. Implement best practices for data management, quality, and governance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
