The Risk Rating Methodology team (RRM) in Wholesale Credit Risk manages the development and refinement of risk rating methodologies for Wholesale credit exposures across Wells Fargo. RRM provides oversight of Wholesale business risk rating methodologies which includes analyzing risk rating data to provide recommendations on existing or new methodologies, approving business risk rating policies and procedures as well as risk rating tool and application education, monitoring of risk rating methodology performance and usage tracking, overseeing model controls and usage, resolving risk rating related issues and research activities. Wells Fargo is seeking a Credit Risk Director to lead the Risk Rating Methodology team.
In this role, you will:
  • Manage a team of credit and analytics professionals in executing against the risk rating strategy.
  • Advise senior leadership on development and implementation of risk rating strategies for Wholesale credit portfolios.
  • Lead the strategy and resolution of complex risk rating related projects that cross businesses and staff functions.
  • Deliver solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking, and coordination of highly complex activities and guidance to others.
  • Lead risk rating methodology development and refinement process, providing challenge and documenting the rationale for recommendations including application of the tools to Wells Fargo model policies and standards.
  • Manipulate and analyze data, preparing summary presentations of findings, and drawing conclusions to present recommendations to senior and executive management.
  • Coordinate communication and rollout of risk rating methodologies and policies, developing standards for education materials and presenting information to various audiences.
  • Evaluate risk rating grid/guidance usage and performance through data analysis, identifying issues that need to be addressed from data trends and taking ownership to address them.
  • Identify opportunities and strategies for initiatives, process improvement and risk control development tied to the enterprise risk rating policy and overall risk rating system.
  • Lead cross-organizational project work which may include facilitation with several different business units across the bank to plan and execute on project deliverables.
  • Lead complex risk rating initiatives and processes by partnering with multiple businesses and other downstream stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Identify, document and track research and potential issues related to risk rating methodology, policy and tools and manage to resolutions.
  • Facilitate resolution of risk rating related recommendations and/or issues from credit review function, Internal Audit, and external regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and maintain control procedures associated with key risks.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Analyze, recommend, and document business risk rating policy and procedure changes.
  • Develop and present risk rating related topics to regulators.
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals.
  • Interact with Audit, Legal, external agencies, and regulatory bodies on risk related topics.
Required Qualifications:
  • 8 years of Credit Risk experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
  • 4 years of management experience.
Desired Qualifications:
  • A subject matter expert in credit risk and understating of model risk management with ability to confidently provide challenge where appropriate.
  • Relevant risk policy development and administration experience.
  • Ability to articulate issues, risks, and proposed solutions to various levels of staff and management.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively, in both written and verbal formats, with senior executive level leaders.
  • Ability to facilitate and lead meetings to reach conclusions, identify tasks, record actions, and achieve results.
  • Ability to work and influence successfully within a matrix environment and build effective business partnerships with all levels of team members.
  • Ability to work effectively, as well as independently, in a team environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial industry associated regulatory standards and agencies.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to take initiative, identify opportunities and implement change.
  • Strong project management skills including the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Credit risk, commercial underwriting, commercial loan review, portfolio management or equivalent experience in financial services.
  • Experience managing and providing oversight of commercial credit policy (enterprise and/or business related).
