Job SummaryThe Director of Business Operations responsible for overseeing the strategy, implementation, monitoring and integration of key projects, initiatives, programs and processes initiated by the Chief Operating Officer. The Director of Business Operations advises, assists, and represents the COO on a wide range of management, legal, programmatic and operational issues and serves as liaison to various committees and constituencies across WellSense. Develops key communications, in consultation with the other senior staff as appropriate, including verbal and written testimonies, Board of Trustees written reports, presentations, balanced scorecard development/execution, etc.

Key Functions/Responsibilities
  • Advises the COO on prioritization of activities across the healthplan and BMC Health System. Is able to discern urgency and appropriate level of subjects so that they are managed by the correct department at WellSense.
  • Acts as liaison across the Health Plan and Health System on a variety of subjects including performance, data, reporting, etc.
  • Assumes responsibility for planning, monitoring and integrating activities required for the effective functioning of operational committees.
  • Develops weekly meeting agendas, plans any scheduled retreats, and coordinates communications among the other Plan committees.
  • Serves as a key representative of the COO to designated internal and external stakeholders.
  • Acts as an information link between the COO and Leadership Team throughout WellSense and works with them, as appropriate, to resolve any matters of concern.
  • Provides on-going direction of strategic consulting engagements.
  • Has regular contact with staff across all parts of the organization, especially Leadership Team members.

  • General direction is received weekly or as needed.
QualificationsEducation Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent combination of training and experience, plus 5-10 years related experience.
Education Preferred
  • MBA, MHA or Master’s in a related field
Experience Required
  • A minimum of 10 years of related management/operational experience.
Experience Preferred/Desirable
  • Previous experience in a Healthcare/insurance field is preferred.
Required Licensure, Certification Or Conditions Of Employment
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background check

  • Excellent judgment and discretion, including a proven ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to respond to respond to constantly changing circumstances, work under short deadlines, and handle a necessarily ambiguous role required.
  • Comprehension and appreciation of the complexities inherent in an organization and of its corresponding corporate culture.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to interact within all levels of the organization.
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully plan, organize and manage projects
  • Detail oriented, excellent proof reading and editing skills
Working Conditions And Physical Effort
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort required. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
