Position Summary:

This position provides high-quality front-line service and support to prospective and enrolled students in a friendly, fast paced, student-focused environment. This position is responsible for being knowledgeable about all aspects of WVC admissions, registration, and financial aid policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists customers by providing interpretation on policies, procedures and laws, provides explanations on forms, pamphlets and other materials.
  • Reviews and researches file documentation to resolve customer-related complaints; advises clients/customers of proper procedures involved in appealing agency decisions.
  • Responds to questions on all agency programs and how to access agency services.
  • Assists clients/customers with establishing accounts, accepting all modes of payment for services and applying agency cash handling policies.
  • Responds to client/customer questions or issues related to accessing and using services and agency specific web tools, applications and/or online systems.
  • Uses computer applications and software to document and track client/customer issues;

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years of increasingly responsible office or customer service experience.
  • Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet software (Word and Excel preferred).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (reading, writing, speaking and understanding).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent.
  • Experience working with confidential legal documents.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously and carry out assignments under pressure and short deadlines and/or frequent interruptions.
  • Experience working in a collaborative format with diverse groups; experience in working with situations which require meeting and greeting the public.
  • Demonstrated competency and experience working in a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, gender and racial/ethnic backgrounds and those with physical, emotional and/or learning disabilities.
  • Experience creating digital content (such as Word/PDF documents and web and learning management system content as appropriate to the role) in accessible formats.
  • Experience working in a community college or other higher education environment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to use exceptional communication and interpersonal skills demonstrating professionalism, empathy, diplomacy, discretion and integrity in interactions with diverse constituencies.
  • High level of proficiency and accuracy in software packages including word processing, spreadsheets and database applications.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft.
  • Quality: Accurate and thorough, prepare detailed reports, evaluate processes to identify ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Professionalism: Approach others in a tactful manner, react well under pressure, treat others with respect and consideration and follow through on commitments.
  • Ability to assess situations, exercise independent judgement, resolve issues and coordinate with IT support services when technical issues arise.

Additional Information

Terms of Employment:

The current vacancy in is a full-time, overtime and benefit eligible position expected to begin as soon as possible. Work hours for this position are generally 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hours and days may change depending on the needs of the college. The starting salary is $36,072 annually ($17.28 per hour) with periodic increases and earning potential to $46,596 annually ($22.32 per hour). The list established by this recruitment will be active for a minimum of three months and be used to fill this position only.

Your paycheck is just part of the total compensation package. There is an outstanding benefits package which is worth an additional value equivalent to about 30% of your salary. Work Schedule & Environment:

  • Work hours are generally 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday; hours and days may change depending on the needs of the college. Work in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions and distractions.
