POSITION SUMMARY

The West Cook YMCA is launching a new summer program, ESPORTS, for 4th-8th graders. A competitive sport through a video game requiring the use of strategy, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills to achieve individual or team success. It’s bigger than ‘just gaming’. YMCA ESPORTS coach will create a safe and welcoming atmosphere to encourage youth to be who they are, excel at what they love, and develop the social, strategic, and problem-solving skills necessary to grow into thriving adults all in a safe, moderated, and inclusive environment. The West Cook YMCA wants you to Level up your game and join Esports at the Y this summer hosted on the Dominican University Campus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants in enrichment programs by providing close supervision of all activities.

2. Create an atmosphere where all participants can have fun, are safe and learn, promote good sportsmanship, build a sense of belonging, relationship, and achievement.

3. Maintain accurate program documentation (program evaluation, incident, accident and behavior reports, attendance and sign-in / sign-out sheets, competition records, etc.).

4. Keep immediate supervisor informed of any concerns or problems regarding program participants or facilities.

5. Maintain an organized workspace, by taking responsibility for the upkeep of equipment, supplies, materials, and program rooms.

6. Represents the YMCA and maintains appropriate relationships with members, parents and youth.

7. Recruiting and retaining participants for the Esports program.

8. Conducting coaching and instruction activities during training, practice, and competition.

9. Ensuring team compliance with all league rules and regulations.

10. Ensures age-appropriate activities and lessons and incorporates the workforce development curriculum to encourage and engage young people in building skills that will support potential future career opportunities.

11. Serves as a positive role model to all participants.

12. Perform all safety and emergency procedures as needed, and other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND REQUISITES

1. Associate or bachelor’s degree is required, youth development, sports, recreational, educational or another related field.

2. One or more years prior experience working with school-aged children (ages 5-12) or middle school students.

3. Knowledge of rules and experience teaching basic Esports skills.

4. At least one-year of competitive eSports experience involving multiplayer online video games with team-based elements and expert knowledge of Rocket League, NBA 2K, Smash Brothers, or similar games.

5. Ability to handle questions, complaints and concerns from staff, members, and participants in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.

6. Withing 60 days of hire required to be certified in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED and child safety training. 

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time

2. Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids

3. Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time

4. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking

5. Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.

6. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.

7. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.

COMPENSATION:

$18-$20.00 based on certification and years of experience.
