General Description of Position: Duties include but are not limited to representing the practice with professionalism, courtesy, and a positive attitude. Assisting the veterinarian with office visits and exams, taking care of the everyday needs of the patients in the hospital ward, and maintaining a neat and clean hospital facility. At West End Veterinary Clinic our veterinary assistants also fill the role of receptionist. Receptionists greet clients, patients and visitors, answer the telephone, answer questions, promote practice services and products, make appointments, proficiently use a computer, and maintain and organize a clean reception area.

Job Requirement/Skills: Assistants must have a sense of caring for animals, must maintain a professional, cheerful, and helpful attitude, and be willing to adapt to changing priorities. Be able to perform several tasks concurrently with ease. Be able to read, write, speak, and understand English well. Speak in an articulate manner and with a pleasant voice. Be able to operate a multiline telephone. Be able to operate computer systems and software in a Microsoft Windows environment. Be able to apply basic math skills to count money, make change, record patient weights, prepare prescriptions, and more. Be able to use a copier, credit-card processor, cash register, printers, and other office equipment. Be familiar with veterinary medical terminology and knowledge about hospital procedures, policies, and services.
