West Fraser is Hiring a Purchasing Supervisor Near Joyce, LA

The Purchasing Supervisor is responsible for the timely purchase of all indirect materials, commodities, supplies, equipment, and services (including stores and non-stores inventories) for all site-specific internal requestors. This position utilizes organizational abilities, a customer service mindset, and attention to detail in order to promote excellence as established in the Company’s vision, mission, and values.

This position will encompass areas such as inventory management and will work in conjunction with assistance of the planner and requisitioner roles. Dealing with contract negotiations and researching and identifying opportunities for growth, the role will focus on ensuring consistent service delivery is maintained while driving continuous improvement. This role supports and participates in the Health and Safety Program. You will enforce safety rules and safe work practices and procedures.

You'll Do:

  • Maintaining a safe level of inventory of all critical parts in Stores to ensure that there will be no down time due to parts not being on hand when required.
  • Use Maximo ERP system to manage and process purchase requisitions
  • Manage and process purchase orders for all direct buy materials for work orders required by mill departments
  • Investigate and negotiate best price with vendors for materials requested
  • Assist in the control of spare parts inventory
  • Help to identify and solve problems pertaining to discrepancies in inventory.
  • Aid in maintaining and processing New Item Requests and New Vendor set ups
  • Maintain communication and critical relations with maintenance, operations team members, accounting and courier companies and vendors.
  • Prepare purchase orders by reviewing and verifying specifications and price; clarifying unclear items; recommending alternatives.
  • Monitoring and expediting orders (including repairables)
  • Ensure adherence to corporate negotiated contracts
  • Aid in maintaining an up to date Received But Not Invoiced account (RBNI)
  • Manage chemical and Lime inventories
  • Good understanding of PST tax regulations and how it applies to the operation (exempt or not).
  • Ensure adherence to Corporate Procurement Code of Practice
  • Ensure SOX Compliance is maintained
  • Commitment to working safely and creating a safe workplace.
  • Support all requirements of the online imaging system for invoice and receipt reconciliation process and identifying price discrepancies from receipt to invoice on a bi-weekly basis

  • Working knowledge of CMMS systems (specifically Oracle and Maximo) would be considered a strong asset
  • Participation in Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) towards a Professional Designation (SCMP) would be considered an asset.
  • Supervisory Experience (Preferably in Purchasing)
  • Ability to take on-call
