Description

The Early Middle College Coordinator provides leadership, planning, and advocacy for early middle college (EMC) program partnerships with West Shore Community College (WSCC). This is a two-year position with the intent that it continues after two years. The Coordinator oversees each EMC to ensure the programs operate harmoniously with the respective local education agency (LEA, aka K-12 district/s). This individual's leadership will ensure that the EMC is collaborative, innovative, and focused on student success. The EMC Coordinator will work collaboratively with WSCC and LEA administration, faculty and other academic staff, stakeholders across the campus, community and pertinent statewide organizations, and the Michigan Department of Education (MDE).

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Coordinate all aspects of WSCC EMCs: application process, website, recruitment, and orientation.
  • Serve as the liaison between the college and the LEA EMC partner organization(s).
  • Create and develop WSCC EMC Credentialing Model to be deployed to LEA EMC partnerships.
  • Work with LEA partners to build EMC structure and ensure consistency.
  • In accordance with the EMC Credentialing Model, co-advise students with LEAs on selecting appropriate courses (i.e., schedule building) based on success skills development, academic preparation, and requirements of the academic program of study, to build meaningful connections between academic endeavors and future career choices.
  • Assist as a facilitator of the EMC colloquia, monthly EMC workshops, and online programming.
  • Monitor EMC student credentialing and academic progress toward goals.
  • Advise EMC students regarding postsecondary course registration, financial aid, career services and other related topics, utilizing test/assessment scores (e.g., SAT/PSAT, Accuplacer, HSE) and other multiple measure resources.
  • Serve as a liaison between Michigan Workforce Training and Education Collaborative (MWTEC) and partnering colleges on behalf of students interested in, or enrolled in, EPiC (Educational Programs in Collaboration) courses.
  • As the primary contact, advise and support EPiC students with program questions, the MWTEC registration process, and the MWTEC learning management system.
  • Provide career and occupational information to current and prospective EMC students.
  • Collaborate with MWTEC partner colleges, to identify program opportunities for EMC students.
  • Provide EMC students with information regarding transfer education program opportunities.
  • Present to parents/guardians, students, and community organizations about WSCC EMCs.
  • Coordinate with EMC partner(s) on student development activities, events, and projects designed to create an ongoing atmosphere of care, concern, and goal attainment.
  • Through the Dean of Occupational Programs, work with the MDE Early Middle College Unit.
  • Represent WSCC at the Michigan Early Middle College Association meetings/conferences.
  • Work on innovative and resourceful EMC recruiting concepts for identified target markets.
  • As guided by the Dean, develop and maintain collaborative relationships that lead to innovative EMC partnerships with community and educational organizations.
  • Oversee EMC record keeping and data collection and coordinate with the Director of Institutional Research to monitor EMC program(s) and student outcomes for continuous improvement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education/training in a related field.
  • Relevant experience in higher education, early college, or related field.

Salary starting at $56,768.
