Position Title: Shop Manager/Shop Foreman

Position Reports to: Terminal Manager and or Director of Maintenance

Position Summary: Under general supervision, oversees the shop workflow processes that take place on a daily basis; serves as manager to shop department; assists in training, supervising, scheduling, evaluating and discipline of department personnel; assists Director of Maintenance on cost efficiency, staffing, and employee relations and performs other related duties as needed.

Essential Functions:

1. Oversees the shop workflow processes that take place on a daily basis; adjusts work load as needed due to demand and staffing; develops adjustments and new procedures as needed to maximize department productivity and to meet necessary deadlines; and monitors work performance by shop staff in order to maintain cost efficiency and timeliness.

2. Serves as manager to shop department; assists in training, supervising, scheduling, prioritizing, evaluating and discipline of department personnel; assumes responsibility as resource person for staff; and assists department staff as needed when deadlines are to be met. Responsible for all direct report hiring decisions; coordinates all hiring, evaluating and discipline through Human Resources.

3. Monitors shop Safety Incentive program and OSHA requirements in order to maintain West Side safety standards; assures safe working procedures and makes adjustments as needed; ensures the shop floor and offices are organized for efficiency and employees maintain a clean and neat work area. Verifies equipment maintenance meets all Department of Transportation requirements; and works with Safety department on scheduling inspections, safety training and safety procedures.

4. Assists Director of Maintenance on cost efficiency, staffing, and employee relations.

5. Works with other West Side departments as needed in order to ensure safe vehicles across the country; and participates in company and department training as available.

6. Works on equipment when necessary and performs other related duties as needed.

Necessary Qualifications: Post high school training in the area of Transportation Management, Auto Maintenance, or Business preferred; past experience in Shop management preferred; over-the-road driving experience a plus; communication and diagnostic repair skills required.

Physical Qualifications: Ability to lift 70 lbs and apply 20 lbs of force constantly to pull, push or lift constantly. Exposures include: extreme noise levels, vibration of the extremities or whole body, and atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, and gases.

***Steel toe boots are required for this position.
