The Director of MetroNews Television Content will lead the strategic planning, execution, and optimization of all content-related activities for MetroNews Television (MNTV). This role is pivotal in driving audience growth, enhancing user engagement, and ensuring the highest quality of content across the platform, social media, third-party collaborations, live sporting events, and future programming initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of media trends, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for innovative content strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on the strategic planning and execution of initiatives to drive overall growth and enhance user experience for MetroNews Television.
  • Analyze market trends, audience feedback, and competitive landscape to formulate tailored growth strategies.
  • Continuously evaluate metrics and gather insights to iterate on strategies and optimize user retention.
  • Oversee efforts to expand the audience base through targeted marketing campaigns and outreach initiatives.
  • Stay on top of industry trends and emerging technologies to inform future growth strategies and product enhancements.
  • Supervise the development, curation, and scheduling of compelling content across various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) to promote MetroNews Television programming.
  • Ensure the consistent and timely posting of content in accordance with programming schedules and special events.
  • Conceptualize and implement brand-specific social media campaigns to showcase particular shows, news segments, and special events.
  • Monitor and actively engage with the audience, fostering a lively online community while providing oversight and assistance as needed.
  • Utilize tools like Google Analytics, Hootsuite, or native platform insights to track and analyze social media metrics.
  • Generate regular reports on social media performance, identifying trends and insights to enhance strategies.
  • Adapt content strategies based on analytics to optimize reach and engagement.
  • Keep up to date on the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices.
  • Innovate and experiment with new strategies to maintain a fresh and dynamic MetroNews social media presence.
  • Search for and identify West Virginia-based video content creators and producers whose work aligns with MetroNews Television’s audience interests.
  • Evaluate the potential appeal and relevance of discovered or suggested content for MetroNews Television viewers, considering factors such as topicality, quality, and viewer engagement.
  • Initiate and conduct negotiations with content creators to secure the inclusion of their work on the MetroNews Television platform.
  • Work closely with content creators to ensure their work meets MetroNews Television’s standards and guidelines.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to seamlessly integrate selected content into the programming schedule.
  • Organize and establish the technical infrastructure required to facilitate live coverage of sporting events on MetroNews Television.
  • Assist in the development of the necessary technical framework tailored for delivering seamless live sports programming.
  • Cultivate partnerships with sports organizations, teams, and venues across West Virginia to access live sporting event coverage.
  • Assist in the setup and configuration of specialized broadcast equipment to capture live sporting action effectively.
  • Collaborate closely with technical teams, event organizers, and production staff to coordinate logistics and ensure smooth operations during live broadcasts.
  • Collaborate with sports content providers to guarantee the delivery of high-quality video feeds and commentary.
  • Develop and enforce protocols for real-time coverage of sporting events, including live updates, analysis, and commentary.
  • Verify the readiness of all technical aspects to ensure the reliable and efficient transmission of live sporting events on MetroNews Television.
  • Establish the necessary technical framework for launching successful new programming products.
  • Assist in fostering relationships across West Virginia to source high-quality video content.
  • Work closely with technical teams to maintain seamless operations.
  • Ensure all technical aspects are in place for the reliable and efficient operation of new programs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a media organization.
  • Strong understanding of content strategy, digital media, and social media platforms.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret metrics and derive actionable insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and collaborate with content creators and partners.
  • Experience in live event coverage, particularly in sports, is highly desirable.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

About West Virginia Radio

West Virginia Radio Corporation was founded in 1940 when Agnes and Herbert Greer placed WAJR-AM on the air in Morgantown, West Virginia. The call letters were the maiden initials of Mrs. Greer (Agnes Jane Reeves). In 1948 WAJR-FM was put on the air as the first FM station in WV and one of the first commercial FM stations licensed in the US. The call letters were changed to WVAQ in 1981. Upon Mrs. Greer's death in 1972, company ownership passed on to her three grandsons: Richard, John and David Raese. Dale Miller was elected President of West Virginia Radio Corporation in 1984. A year later the... firm began the MetroNews Radio Network a statewide news, information and sports network distributed via satellite. MetroNews has grown to more than 50 news affiliates and owns exclusive radio and TV rights to the West Virginia SSAC State High School championships in basketball, football & baseball. In total, West Virginia Radio Corporation operates and/or controls a total of 28 radio stations based in six physical locations.
