West Virginia University Research Corporation Human Resources is Hiring a Research Specialist Senior - CEMR - Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Near Morgantown, WV

Purpose

This position involves conducting research in high-temperature electrochemistry for energy materials, with a focus on manufacturing solid oxide fuel cells/electrolysis cells, etc. The candidate will be responsible for various research activities, including materials synthesis, process development, device fabrication, and electrochemical characterization/analysis.

Duties & Responsibilities

Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:

* Plan laboratory experiments to confirm feasibility of processes and techniques used in the production of materials having special characteristics in solid oxide cell electrochemical systems.

* Electrochemical characterization and analyses

* New functional materials development

* Device fabrication process improvement

* Scalable device manufacturing

* Search scientific literature to select and modify methods and procedures most appropriate for research goals.

Supervisory/Lead Role

This position reports directly to the Principal Investigator. Normally receives general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments. Will receive guidance when a difficulty arises in a current project or situation. May offer input on determining methods or procedures. General sharing of knowledge and team participation is expected in this role.

Physical Demands

Ability to stand, walk, sit, manual dexterity & feel, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, couch, crawl, talk, hear, taste or smell. Activities are predominantly non-manual though some manual work not directly involved with altering or transporting of products may be included

Work Environment

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices and laboratories. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Exposure to mechanical parts, electricity, chemicals, and vibration. Responsible to know and comply with all safety procedures. Candidate may experience the following and require medical monitoring: Contacting Hazardous Chemicals - daily or weekly, using strong acids or caustics, fuel or tar products or cancer-causing chemicals.

* Master's degree in materials science, chemical, or electrical engineering, or related area.

* 1 year of experience in electrochemical research.
