Description
Westchester Day School is seeking full-time Assistant Teachers in Limudei Kodesh in our elementary school (1st-4th grade) that are knowledgeable, passionate, and dedicated to the growth of our students in Torah and Hebrew language knowledge and skills.
This position is a phenomenal opportunity for those who are looking to grow and learn from experienced master Limudei Kodesh educators. While you will follow the lead of the head Limudei Kodesh teacher, you will also be making a very tangible impact in the classroom working in smaller groups with students on reading fluency, reading comprehension of Chumash and other Hebrew texts. You will also assist the head teacher with tefillah and other duties/responsibilities throughout the day which runs from 8:00am-4:00pm.
We are looking for someone who is fluent in reading Hebrew and has a good working knowledge of spoken Hebrew.

Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist lead teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities that align with curriculum standards and educational goals.
  • Support individual and small group instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with learning differences.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel respected, supported, and engaged in learning.
  • Assist with classroom management, behavior reinforcement, and conflict resolution to promote a conducive learning atmosphere.
  • Provide supervision and assistance during classroom transitions, recess, lunchtime, and other non-instructional periods.
  • Collaborate with lead teachers to assess student progress, collect data, and provide feedback to students and parents/guardians.
  • Assist with classroom materials preparation, organization, and maintenance to facilitate effective teaching and learning.
  • Support the integration of technology and other instructional resources into lesson delivery and student engagement activities.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and team meetings to enhance skills and contribute to a collaborative learning community.
  • Uphold school policies, procedures, and safety protocols to ensure the well-being and security of students and staff.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or Jewish Studies is preferred though not required
  • Ability to speak and understand Ivrit well is necessary and must be fluent in reading Ivrit
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of elementary education principles, instructional strategies, and child development theories.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a passion for working with young children.
  • Ability to follow directions, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborate with other educational team members to provide a balanced and comprehensive educational experience.
  • Attend faculty meetings, seek out professional development, and contribute to the overall school community.
  • Communicate and work with parents, students, families, support staff, members of administration, and external providers to ensure a differentiated and personalized education for each child.
This is a full time role time role. The salary range for this role is $35,000-$45,000, dependent upon education and experience.
