Westcoast Family Centres is Hiring an INTERNAL: Indigenous Education Consultant Near Vancouver, WA

We are proud and honoured to offer services on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh), Kwikwetlem (kʷikʷəƛ̓ əm) First Nations Katzie and Kwantlen First Nations.

Opportunity:

We are looking for a full-time Indigenous Education Consultant for to support services across all the territories in the community and to work as part of the Vancouver Family Preservation and Reunification team. The Indigenous Education Consultant supports our Family Preservation Workers, SVA workers and Clinical Counsellors working with Indigenous Families. The Indigenous Education Consultant must be able to travel within the community to provide liaisons with Indigenous Organizations and local bands.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support as a consultant for complex Indigenous cases across Westcoast and FSGV, providing culturally sensitive advice
  • Strengthen capacity and learnings of Indigenous history and culture.
  • Develop meaningful connections with Indigenous organizations.
  • Support and liaison with post-secondary institutions to support Indigenous practicum students (create opportunities for Indigenous students to start in the field).
  • Promote, grow, and expand Indigenous Family Preservation Program with MCFD and throughout the community.
  • Ensure culturally sensitive practice and documentation.
  • Connect and liaison with elders and local bands.
  • Conducts training for WFC Staff, Caregivers and MCFD
  • Create cultural plans for each of our indigenous families, specific to their cultures, beliefs, heritage and practice
  • Compile cultural packages for families based on the cultural plans.
  • Develop and facilitate groups and workshops specific to Indigenous families, such as building resilience, self-care, accessing services, and caring for indigenous children.
  • Help support families and indigenous persons gain status, registration and access Jordan’s principle.
  • Run culturally sensitive events for Indigenous families which aim to reduce barriers preventing them from accessing services.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with families who may present multiple service needs related to poverty, addictions, violence, child abuse or neglect, and mental health issues.
  • Strong counselling, program planning, and communication skills.

Skills You Bring:

  • You must bring an extensive experience and knowledge working with Indigenous clients and communities.
  • It is required to have previous supervisory/consulting experience.
