Job Description

About the Role:

As a Process Engineer for Metrology and Defect group in the AMD (Advanced Memory Development) team, you will play a crucial role in process recipe development/optimization for metrology and defect inspection tools and data analysis.

He/she will also identify, diagnose, and resolve manufacturing process-related problems by applying failure analysis, SPC methodology and material characterization techniques.

Additional responsibilities include coordinating with development partner located in Europe and participating in yield improvement activities, collaborating in new process baseline qualifications, and driving equipment suppliers to achieve team objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive project milestones, timeline, metro and defect data analysis (Various metrology and optical inspections tools and techniques such as scatterometry, ellipsometry, AFM, CD SEM, FTIR, SAXS, reflectometry, Defect inspection tools Brightfield/Darkfield)
  • Collaborate and drive equipment vendors for Defect and TF metro tools to improve and optimize applications based on development requirements.
  • Work on new detection/inline techniques to close detection gaps
  • Full accountability for TD quality issues; excursion control plan
  • Selects and develops Metro equipment that will enable program quality, reliability, cost, yield, productivity, and manufacturability requirement.
  • Collaborate with process areas and integration team to designs and conducts routine wafer experiments, analyzes data, and reports the results providing recommendations for improving the performance or reducing cost based on test results.
  • Develops and implements practices or methodologies which reduce cost and improve operational efficiency.
  • Conducts root cause analysis and implementing corrective action.
  • Reviews and updates and maintains documentation and process instructions.
  • Resolves process or metrology issues related to material selections; recommends corrective action.
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedure as required.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level*

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in science, Technology, or Engineering.
  • Fundamental knowledge of various metrology and optical inspections tools and techniques such as scatterometry, ellipsometry, AFM, CD SEM, FTIR, SAXS, reflectometry, Defect inspection tools Brightfield/Darkfield.
  • Solid knowledge of wafer fabrication processing techniques and tools.
  • Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications to create spreadsheets, word documents, presentations.
  • Data analysis proficiency and statistics, able to design experiments, analyze results and recommend correctives actions, and JMP (preferred).
  • Candidates must possess a passion for solving complex manufacturing problems and a continuous learning mindset.
  • Experience in handling international shipping and vendor collaboration is highly desirable.

Compensation & Benefits Details

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
  • You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance. Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan.
