As the Irving S. Gilmore School of Music continues to enhance its performing arts offerings, establishing the tenure-track position in oboe is not only a strategic imperative but also a pivotal step toward cultivating a vibrant and comprehensive educational experience in alignment with WMU's commitment to academic excellence, cultural enrichment, and community engagement. The anticipated start date is August 2024.
Major Duties
* Teaching applied oboe lessons, and rebuilding the studio to needed numbers.
* Coach chamber ensembles, teaching oboe/English horn/double reed technique classes, online general education courses such as music appreciation or the symphony, and developing and implementing new courses for the wider university population.
* Playing with faculty wind ensembles as part of outreach and recruitment efforts.
* Maintaining contractually appropriate service to the institution, college, and unit.
Minimum Qualifications
* Hold at least a MM degree or international equivalent in oboe from an accredited institution.
* Have at least one year of post-graduate, college-level teaching experience in Oboe/English horn.
* Have a vibrant professional record commensurate with years of experience in the field.
* Have evidence of creative, professional, and curricular accomplishment in areas related to double reed education, such as reed making and double reed pedagogy.
Desired Qualifications
* Professional experiences or specialized education in chamber music.
