The individual in this role will have the opportunity to ensure an effective enterprise business continuity management framework is developed, maintained, and adhered to across the enterprise and is consistent with general regulatory requirements and industry best practices and standards. Business continuity management ensures that the established framework supports successful business operation during a business-impacting event and a successful return to normal business operation in a timely fashion.
The Business Continuity Process Owner will work with others across the organization to design, develop, and implement the business continuity management framework. The process owner also governs, tests, and continually improves the people, processes, and tools over time, ensuring that the framework adjusts to accommodate the changing business needs of Western National.
What are the responsibilities and opportunities of this role?
  • Works with management across all lines of business to coordinate business continuity activities, including preparing for an event and assisting in coordinating execution during an event, which encompasses both business continuity and disaster recovery functions.
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of the enterprise-wide business continuity management program, including development of tools, instructional guides, and training.
  • Facilitates the development of corporate policies, standards, and guidelines, and coordinates enterprise-wide event exercises.
  • Establishes and maintains business continuity processes and practices which effectively ensure that the process remains current and incorporates and aligns with industry standards and practices as appropriate and meets regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in external business continuity management organizations and keeps up to date on industry best practices and trends.
  • Acts as the subject matter expert for business continuity management.
  • Guides the IT disaster recovery process and ensures that it aligns with the overarching business continuity process.
  • Leads periodic review, validation, and workflow testing of documented business continuity plans.
  • Identifies key performance indicators for the business continuity process and reports on progress as the process improves.
  • Conducts assessments for various departments and functions, analyzing the potential business impact of business interruptions such as security breaches, natural disasters, and infrastructure failures.
  • Identifies areas within the business continuity process which need attention and assigns owners to the work as needed.
  • Decides when an issue has been properly remedied and determines pass / fail on the outcome of business continuity exercises.
  • Partners with business leaders and IT professionals to identify deficiencies in the existing business continuity framework and works with these resources to develop creative solutions to address the deficiencies.
  • Consistently acts according to our customer experience standards, including responding quickly, maintaining a positive attitude, building rapport, demonstrating empathy, managing the customer’s expectations, using the proper communication channel for the situation, and taking ownership to ensure the customer’s issue is resolved.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
RequirementsWhat are the must-have qualifications for a candidate?
  • Broad experience in IT and the ability to pick up quickly on the structure and functionality of new and existing IT environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of the business continuity planning process.
  • A focus on business satisfaction with strong interpersonal skills and responsiveness.
  • Proficient use of our various core systems, office and computer equipment, and software packages.
  • In-depth experience with risk management or other ITIL processes.
  • Direct experience with business continuity processes and tools.
  • Foundation level or advanced ITIL certifications are preferred.
  • Good track record for innovation and measurable process improvements.
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems and generate innovative approaches and solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills with previous experience breaking down complex technical problems.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to meet aggressive deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously while adapting to constantly changing requirements.
  • Proven leadership, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to speak at an appropriate technical and business level for the audience and prepare written proposals, recommendations, and business cases.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Five-plus years of technology experience.
  • Excellent working knowledge of typical IT operations and support organizations.

Compensation OverviewThe targeted hiring range for this role is $100,530 - $122,870, annually. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role. Candidates looking for compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and / or may be considered for other positions.
