Summary of Position

The responsibility of the Trauma Registrar is to ensure the Trauma Database contains detailed, reliable, and readily accessible information needed to operate the Western Reserve Hospital Level III Trauma Center. Data collected includes the injury event, demographics, pre-hospital information, diagnosis, care, outcomes, and costs of treatment for injured patients. This data is collected for the individual hospital at the state level as required by law.

Background, Experience, and Education

1.Education and Training

• Associates degree required.

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

• Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) preferred.

• American Society’s Trauma Registrar Course (or equivalent), must be completed within twelve (12) months of hire.

• Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s Injury Scaling Course, must be completed within twelve (12) months of hire.

2.Experience

• Trauma/Injury Registry experience preferred.

• Familiarity with coding preferred.

• Experience in medical record format preferred.

• Experience using computerized programs for data handling, knowledge in trauma registry methodology, case abstracting, data entry, ICD-9CM / ICD-10 coding.

Education

• Associate's Degree or better
