The Mining Specialist will work within Product Support Sales as a centralized resource for mining industry experience and knowledge. This Mining Specialist will work in alignment with the Mining Operations Manager, Caterpillar, and Product Support team to research, recommend, and promote Western States Mining solutions to our clients. The Mining Specialist will be also responsible for communicating with Caterpillar subject matter experts for technical solutions within the WESCO’s territory.

Digital Sales Development

• Submits DSN tickets and Goodwill requests to Caterpillar reps. Communicates with Caterpillar engineering on product solutions and relays information back to the Mining group.
• Achieves expertise in the mining products category through training, research, and continual learning including new product introductions (NPI), improvements, and parts products.
• Researches customer situations regarding the parts product including, but not limited to, consulting with Caterpillar subject matter experts and researching literature both printed and on-line, customer issue resolution and customer wear.
• Provides support and guidance to personnel within the Mining service department, Equipment Management department, Mining Product Support team, Parts Operations, and Marketing to include customer follow up for help with service call closure.
• Promotes recommended solutions to customers in concert with the Mining Operations Manager, Product Support Sales Representatives (PSSR), or Parts Sales Consultant.
• Identifies and reports all significant activities of competitors in the Mining Product class and any significant issues.
• Provides input to Caterpillar for NPI projects such as competitive product offerings and marketing campaigns, cost and/or transaction price information, parts competitive bulletins, and opportunity analysis.
• Regularly attends Caterpillar aftermarket meetings and relays offerings, updates to the Mining Product Support Team to increase parts and service sales.
• Attends PSSR regional weekly update meetings to include updates to the Caterpillar Plesn program.
• Monitors Caterpillar CWMS reporting for accuracy from WSECO to include monthly inspections updates to PSSR team.
• Coordinates Expanded Mining efforts, initiatives, service letters, and field campaigns.
• Analyzes Mining customer data to identify sales opportunities and increase customer awareness of WSECO capabilities including Plesn.
• Increase mining parts sales, service offerings, profitability, and customer satisfaction through continuous contact with mining clients.
• Adheres to all customer care standards.
• Actively cares and advocates safety at Western States. Adheres to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
• May accomplish training and serve as a team member in support of Western States’ strategic programs, projects, and initiatives.
• Works within and promotes corporate vision, mission, and values of the organization.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Strong technical knowledge of Caterpillar software and undercarriage programs, Microsoft programs, and other software applications.

Education And Experience

• Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Five years minimum mining industry experience.
• Experience in troubleshooting and diagnosing technical issues required.
• Prior experience communicating, verbally and in writing, technical issues and resolutions required.
• Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).

Physical Characteristics

• Ability to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, repetitive climbing stairs, reaching (including but not limited to above-shoulder reaching), repetitive bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning, and twisting.
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. in accordance with Western States’ Lifting Policy to include amount and approach.
• Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
