JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION (ELEM K-6/Secondary 7-12 includes transition services)
CONTRACT DAYS: 247-day Contract
QUALIFICATIONS: Possess a minimum of 3 years successful teaching and/or successful experience directing special education; Demonstrate leadership abilities and interpersonal skills; Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; Maintain a knowledge base and understanding of latest special education trends. Must have Director of Special Education Licensing or other Indiana School Administrator License. Reports to: Director of Special Education/Student Services
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assist the Director of Special Education in the implementation of district-wide policies and procedures for IDEA and Article 7 compliance. 2. Supervise the district elementary or secondary resource special education programs and curriculum. 3. The secondary position will include leading transition services/Federal Indicator 13. 4. Supervise the district special education programs as designated by the Director of Special Education. 5. Assist the Director of Special Education in providing structure and direction for WWS special education programs. 6. Attend case conferences as designated by the Director of Special Education. 7. Provide training on all aspects of special education services to general and special education teachers and administrators. 8. Assist building principals in the hiring and evaluation of special education teachers/other certified staff (OT/PT/SLP/School Psychologist). 9. Complete state and federal reports as designated by the Director of Special Education. 10. Supervise the district special education departments as designated by the Director of Special Education. 11. Supervise the district special education specialists as designated by the Director of Special Education. 12. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education/Superintendent.
