Westlake Careers is Hiring a Fabrication Superintendent Near McPherson, KS

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the safety, quality, housekeeping, and productivity of the fabrication department and will support all other departments of the plant as needed. The position provides leadership to maintain the highest levels of safety, quality, customer service delivery, operating efficiencies, and cost control within the fabrication department and it ensures the continuity of production by providing effective communication and planning within plant departments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform the primary thinking encompassed by this job description.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Confers with management personnel to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and to obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
  • Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
  • Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems.
  • Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
  • Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems.
  • Consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products.
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

PROBLEM SOLVING:

Decision making and problem solving are accomplished using analysis tools, council, and input from the Plant Manager and Regional Manufacturing Manager, staff members, supervisors and hourly personnel. Decisions are based upon judgement and knowledge gained from operating perimeters, employee relations, corporate policies and past practices.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A bachelor’s degree in an industrial or engineering discipline is preferred. A minimum of 10 years in manufacturing management is preferred. Examples of change management preferred. Strong PC skills and knowledge of software (Microsoft Excel) applications is desired. Exposure to Labor laws, OSHA, and EPA preferred

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the staff of the Fabrication Department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Travel is required is approximately 10% per year by car or air travel.
