Company Overview:
Established in 1977, Westland Real Estate Group is a privately owned Property Management company that manages and owns Real Estate portfolios responsibly. Our real estate portfolio consists of both Commercial and Residential with Residential having over 30,000 units spread out through Southern CA, Las Vegas, NV, Fort Worth and San Antonio, TX.

Position Brief:
The Maintenance Training Manager is a vital leader within our multifamily housing organization, responsible for designing, developing, and delivering comprehensive training programs that empower our maintenance technicians with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in their roles and provide exceptional service to our residents. This position requires a strong technical background in multifamily maintenance, exceptional instructional abilities, a passion for fostering a culture of continuous learning and development, and the ability to train and certify other maintenance technicians to industry standards.

Essential Functions:

Training Needs Analysis:
  • Conduct thorough needs assessments to identify skill gaps and training requirements across various maintenance disciplines (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, flooring, carpentry, appliance repair, etc.).
  • Analyze industry trends, new technologies, and best practices to ensure training programs remain current and relevant.
  • Collaborate with regional maintenance managers, maintenance supervisors and property managers to understand specific training needs at individual properties.
  • Curriculum Development & Delivery:
  • Design and develop engaging and effective training programs, incorporating various instructional methods (e.g., classroom instruction, hands-on workshops, online modules, simulations, mentoring) to cater to diverse learning styles.
  • Create training materials, including manuals, presentations, videos, and job aids, that are clear, concise, and easily accessible.
  • Deliver training programs in a professional and engaging manner, ensuring comprehension and application of key concepts.
  • Develop and implement a standardized onboarding process for new maintenance technicians, covering essential skills, safety protocols, and company policies.

Certification & Professional Development:
  • Research and identify relevant industry certifications (e.g., EPA certification for refrigerant handling, Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT), etc.) that align with company needs and industry best practices.
  • Develop and deliver "Train-the-Trainer" programs to certify qualified maintenance technicians as internal trainers, enabling them to conduct certification courses for their peers.
  • Develop training pathways and programs that prepare maintenance technicians to successfully obtain industry certifications.
  • Coordinate and facilitate certification testing, providing support and guidance throughout the process.
  • Track and monitor certification attainment and renewal, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Program Management & Evaluation:
  • Manage the overall training budget and resources effectively.
  • Schedule and coordinate training sessions, ensuring adequate facilities, equipment, and materials are available.
  • Track and monitor training progress, attendance, and completion rates.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through assessments, feedback, and performance observation, making adjustments as needed to maximize impact.
  • Training Management: Plan, schedule, and execute training events, maintain training records, and develop in-classroom and in-field testing and scoring models

Collaboration & Mentorship:
  • Foster a collaborative learning environment and provide ongoing support and mentorship to maintenance technicians.
  • Partner with vendors and industry experts to leverage external training resources and stay abreast of the latest technologies and techniques.
  • Collaborate with safety personnel to integrate safety protocols and best practices into all training programs.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or trade certification in a relevant field (e.g., plumbing, HVAC, electrical) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in multifamily maintenance, with demonstrated expertise in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, flooring, and carpentry.
  • Minimum of 2 years of training experience
  • Hold relevant industry certifications with the ability to certify others in those same areas such as product expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing and other facets of property management maintenance.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering effective training programs, including "Train-the-Trainer" programs.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to motivate and engage learners of various skill levels.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • OSHA / Cal OSHA 30 General Industry Certification
  • Valid Driver License
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with various maintenance software and technologies.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  • Certification in instructional design or training (e.g., Certified Professional in Learning and Performance) is a plus

Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders

Work Environment:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, and high places.
  • The noise level in the work environment can be moderate to loud.
  • May be required to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Able to meet extensive travel requirements.
