Job Description

The Dozoretz Hospice House of Hampton Roads is actively searching for an IPU director! 

I. QUALIFICATIONS

  • A person who is a licensed registered nurse, or 
  • Has training and experience in health services administration and at least two (2) years of supervisory or administrative experience in Hospice or related health programs such as long-term care, within the last 5 years. 
  • Has operational knowledge of the Virginia Hospice Regulations and the Medicare Conditions of Participation.
  • Demonstrated ability in or application of organizational/communication skills. 
  • Ability to deal effectively with high levels of stress. 
  • Ability to enlist the cooperation of many people in furthering a program.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organizes and supervises the administrative functions of the hospice program.
  • Plans, directs, and evaluates operations to ensure adequate and appropriate care and services that are of high quality.
  • Maintaining an ongoing liaison among the Governing Body, the professional personnel, and staff. 
  • Employees qualified personnel and ensures adequate employee orientation, training, education, and evaluation. 
  • Ensures the accuracy of public information materials and activities. 
  • Implements an effective budgeting and accounting system. 
  • Implements policies and procedures approved by the governing body.
  • Maintains compliance with applicable laws and regulations and implements corrective action in response to reports of hospice program committees and regulatory agencies
  • Manage and supervise clinical and administrative staff.
  • Arranges and negotiates required contracts and ultimately overseas contract provisions. 
  • Assesses employees continuously to ascertain their understanding of policies and procedures. 
  • Maintains two-way communication with employees and fair administration of personnel policies. 
  • Responsible for marketing the Hospice House in the community to drive utilization by providers
  • Develops and maintains contact with key, targeted referral sources toward generating new referrals and maintaining referral relationships.
  • Maintains current knowledge of local trends and issues, disseminates information with staff as appropriate.
  • Ensures staff development including orientation, inservice education, and continuing education. 
  • Establishes and oversees the IPU Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement Program. 
  • Coordinates with other program areas and management as appropriate. 
  • Adheres to the HHHR code of ethical behavior and models our core values of respect, passion, and professionalism at all times. Serves as a role model and resource for all colleagues by setting an example of high standards in dress, conduct, cooperation, and job performance.
  • Accepts responsibility for regular attendance and punctuality, fulfills job requirements without regard to time involved.
  • Responsible for the marketing and promotion of the HHHR.
  • Coordinates the admissions and discharge of hospice patients with the clinical team.
  • Ensures customer service feedback is obtained and tracked for quality improvement opportunities.
  • Works closely with hospital discharge planners, physicians and hospice agencies to establish processes for admissions and care that meet federal and state requirements. 
  • Performs all other duties as assigned. 

III. JOB CONDITIONS

Job requires the ability to:

  • Be available at all times during operating hours and for emergency situations.
  • Participate in physical activity. 
  • Work for an extended period of time while standing and being involved in physical activity. 
  • Perform moderate lifting. 
  • Do extensive bending, lifting, and standing on a regular basis.

IV. ORIENTATION AND TRAINING

Dozoretz Hospice House of Hampton Roads will provide orientation and training, as necessary, to assist the Administrator in performing the responsibilities listed above. Training may be in-house, or outside seminars. Evidence of orientation and training will become part of the personnel file.

V. ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Reports directly to the IPU Executive Director
  • Works cooperatively with all members of the Interdisciplinary Team

The Dozoretz Hospice Hospice House of Hampton Roads is a 12 bed Inpatient Hospice facility opening in the Spring of 2024. Beth Sholom and Westminster Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay have partnered to operate and manage the house.
