This position is a benefited position with one-year probationary status.
Note: A hard copy of a current motor vehicle record (MVR) is required with application. If it is not received, the application will be incomplete and will not be considered for employment.

Position is 8 hours per day up to the first 30-days for driver training program. Upon successful completion of driver training program, licensed drivers can select assignment to available open bus routes. Available bus route hours range from 6 up to 8 hours per day Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed and selected candidates will be interviewed. Due to a high volume of applications received, candidates will only be contacted if selected for an interview. Additional testing may be conducted. Post-offer background screenings are required. Transporting the students, staff and community, ensuring a safe, secure, comfortable, positive and nurturing environment to foster student learning while sustaining a high level of customer service. Qualifications: Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical, required for hire.
  • Operating knowledge of wheelchair lifts both electric and manual, bus wash and district buses required within 40 to 60 hours after hire.
  • English language skills, bilingual desired.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Personal computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of personnel in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret policies and procedures, laws, rules and instructions.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to pass various pre-employment background screenings.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, building and department procedures.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Valid Colorado driver's license.
  • Valid Commercial driver's license (CDL) permit with BP2S endorsement required within one week of hire.
  • Valid CDL with BP2S endorsement required within four weeks of hire.
  • BOCES Safety Training Certificate required within 60 days of hire.
  • American Heart Association CPR and First Aid Certification required within three months of hire.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Driving students safely to and from school/destination by:
    1. Following a specified route when picking up and dropping off students.
    2. Arriving and departing on timely manner.
    3. Establishing a safe and orderly environment, e.g., Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
    4. Adhering to District and Transportation Department guidelines and procedures.
    5. Performing safety drills with students.
    6. Reviewing proper safety procedures with students.
    7. Complying with proper health and safety processes and procedures, e.g., Universal Precautions, Crisis Prevention Intervention.
    8. Assisting students on/off the bus, e.g., medical equipment, backpacks, wheelchair lifts, Star seats.
  1. Maintain communications by:
    1. Conferencing with supervisor, District staff, parents and students and/or law enforcement officers, e.g., assigned routes, schedules, special needs accommodations, accident reports, field trips, student safety, disciplinary actions, etc.
    2. Being accessible via District communication devices.
    3. Responding to requests submitted electronically.
    4. Generating work orders as necessary.
  1. Maintain District assets by:
    1. Ensuring proper functionality of assigned vehicle.
    2. Servicing bus interior/exterior, e.g., cleaning, between routes.
    3. Fueling buses.
    4. Complying with federal, state, local and District safety guidelines and regulations, e.g., pre-trip/post-trip, chains, chalks.
  1. Maintain accurate records by:
    1. Compiling data for reporting to federal, state, local agencies and District e.g., verification of time worked, mileage, student attendance count/roster, Medicaid, field trips, traffic violations.
    2. Reporting incidents in a timely manner, e.g., discipline/behavior, child neglect/abuse, injuries, accidents.
    3. Participating in required professional development and training.
  1. Provide services to the District by:
    1. Remaining available for afterhours dispatch as per a scheduled assignment.
    2. Assisting bus drivers in transporting students when a bus is out of commission.
    3. Performing other tasks as assigned.
  1. Maintain a high level of productivity by cross training within the department.
  1. Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality of any information regarding students, personnel and all job-related matters.
