Job Description
WH Bass is an employee-owned general contractor. We are a group of professionals that have come together to accomplish these goals. We are currently seeking an Estimator to fill a full-time, salaried position at our suburban Atlanta office in Johns Creek, GA. The successful applicant will have experience as a commercial construction estimator dealing with new, ground up construction as well as additions & interior renovations. This individual will also be able to think strategically in a manner that most effectively positions WB Bass to acquire targeted projects.

The selected candidate will be responsible for carrying out the following duties:

  • Construction plans and specification take offs for the purpose of preparing quantity, material, and labor cost estimates.
  • Identification of potential risks and possible value engineering.
  • Ability to generate timely and relevant requests for information from the bid recipients prior to bid date.
  • Identification and vetting of qualified subcontractors and vendors.
  • Ability to effectively write clear bid notes of explanation to accompany final bid submittal.
  • Review of scope with selected subcontractors and procurement of bids, throughout bid and buyout stages, in a timely manner.
  • Offsite travel to visit potential project sites and attend pre-bid meetings; some of these trips may consist of overnight or multiple day visits.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • College degree (preferably in engineering or construction management) or experience in lieu of degree
  • At least five years of commercial building construction estimating experience
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proven ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks and meet scheduled deadlines
  • Outstanding attention to detail to carefully document basis for individual trade quotes and subsequent bid notes.
  • Outstanding technical skills and familiarity with on screen take offs and database programs
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a broad range of people including fellow staff, clients, architects, subcontractors, and others involved in the bid and pre-construction process.
  • Ability to extract post bid intelligence from owner including, but not limited to actual low bid price, awarded contractor and major factors in the award decision in cases where WH Bass is not awarded project
  • Ability to work closely with Project Manager to facilitate transition of project, to Project Manager, once project has been awarded to WH Bass
