Whatcom County Public Works, Ferry Division, is hiring 3 on-call ferry employees.
These positions will provide support to cover absences and illnesses of regularly scheduled ferry crew, be responsible to help provide Lummi Island ferry transportation services to the public by directing traffic in loading and unloading operations, as well as perform general maintenance and cleaning tasks as directed.
On-Call positions work varied shifts and are not eligible for benefits. A set number of hours is not guaranteed for On-Call positions and will vary greatly based on staffing needs.
Positions may require working evenings, weekends and holidays. Shifts are 10 hours, AM or PM.
Pay starts at the entry wage and increases after 1,080 hours worked.
Maritime experience, including maintenance and cleaning of boats and marine equipment is preferred.
Background check must meet County criteria.
Must pass federally mandated Department of Transportation drug and alcohol tests.
Must be available to begin each shift from Lummi Island. Each shift on the ferry begins and ends on Lummi Island.
At its sole discretion, Whatcom County may consider combinations of education, experience, certifications, and training in lieu of specifically required qualifications contained herein.
