White Oak conserves and sustains some of the earth's rarest wild animals through innovative training, research, education, and conservation breeding programs that contribute to the survival of wildlife in nature. The conservation programs span 600 acres along the St. Mary’s River in northeast Florida, surrounded by 17,000 acres of mixed forest and wetlands that make up the beautiful White Oak property. Founded in 1982, White Oak leads professional efforts to improve veterinary care, develop holistic animal management techniques, and better understand the biology of critically endangered species by providing excellent care and managing conservation programs for over 30 species of imperiled wildlife in large, naturalistic habitats.
Position Purpose:
To oversee, manage, and lead the Support Services department to ensure safe, secure, efficient and effective
maintenance and development support for White Oak including its operations, facilities, utilities, fleet,
infrastructure, and road systems.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
 Direct, oversee, lead, and manage the Support Services department and its associated teams and
operations.
 Work closely with the White Oak’s General Manager to provide exceptional stewardship and strategic
planning to promote White Oak’s mission and objectives.
 Work closely with the White Oak’s General Manager and Foundation Director to develop, direct, and
oversee annual budgets, work plans, and strategies that support White Oak’s mission and goals.
 Develop and manage the Support Services annual budget and capital improvement plans.
 Oversee and manage the execution of special/large projects and development projects that may include
work by Support Services teams and/or external contractors.
 Establish expectations and standards for completion of general and preventative maintenance and
monitor progress.
 Establish schedules, assign personnel for routine and emergency maintenance coverage.
 Perform regular inspections of the grounds, landscaping, buildings, and associated equipment such as
HVAC units, freezer, generators, appliances, etc. to ensure safe and efficient maintenance and
operation.
 Monitor and manage work order systems to ensure all repairs and maintenance requests are handled
appropriately and in a timely manner.
 Ensure vendors and contractors provide White Oak with the highest standards of quality, safety and
professionalism.
 Maintain effective sustainability programs for the safe and efficient use of equipment, energy, and other
resources on property.
 Maintain appropriate supply of materials and equipment to carry out the normal day to day operating
and maintenance requirements while minimizing excess inventory.
 Maintain organized systems within the shop areas for the inventory, maintenance, and storage of all
tools, products, materials, and equipment necessary to execute the required activities of the
department.
 Manage White Oak’s vehicle and heavy equipment fleet and determine appropriate replacement cycles
based on primary use, lifespan and condition.
 Be immediately available to report to the property in the event of an emergency.
 Assist in recruitment and development of employees; hire, train, empower, coach and counsel,
mentoring, performance and salary reviews, successional planning, and resolve conflict through White
Oak guidelines.
 Work with the Safety & Security Manager to establish safety protocols and training programs for all
areas and ensure compliance to protocol.
 Develop and foster relationships with external vendors, contractors, and key employees of Nassau
County.
 Work closely with other managers and the Leadership Team to achieve White Oak’s mission and
objectives.
 Represent White Oak in ways that strengthen the organization and communicate White Oak’s message.
 Participate on various committees as needed.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
 Five years experience as a senior manager or higher in a facilities management or construction role.
 Excellent knowledge of electrical systems, components, and devices, HVAC systems, plumbing,
irrigation and the maintenance and repair of all.
 Excellent knowledge of construction and building systems; all related permits, licensing, new and
existing codes pertaining to public building and fire safety.
 Skilled in the use of GIS and/or GPS mapping.
 Skilled in use of computers and software programs associated with property operations and
development (e.g. CAD).
 Skilled in the proper and safe use of all tools, equipment, materials, chemicals, and products relating
to the department.
 Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
 Knowledgeable in building codes and OSHA safety regulations.
 Ability to operate without direct supervision and be self-motivated, persistent, confident, tenacious,
and take pride in work
 Flexibility in work hours and schedule; job may occasionally require working long hours, weekends,
and holidays.
