White Oak of Charleston is a 176 bed Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility. We are in need of a dedicated Staff Development Nurse.

REPORTS TO: Administrator and/or DON
PURPOSE: To provide appropriate and timely training and education for staff, residents and family members of the facility.
WORKING HOURS: Full time Monday-Friday
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of approved school of nursing and currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of residence (North or South Carolina). Should have at least three years of supervisory or administrative experience. Good physical and mental health verified by an annual physical health screening. Must have knowledge of current changes in the nursing and medical field and be able to interpret how these changes will affect long-term care. Proven leadership abilities. Displays organizational ability and good time management skills. Teaching background is desirable but not mandatory. Matrix experience highly preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervises and participates in orientation for all personnel. Defines duties and interprets policies during orientation. Develops, revises and maintains a current orientation plan. Completes orientation for all facility personnel.
  • Assists Director of Nursing in planning yearly in-service programs for nursing department, including both inside and outside sources and taking advantage of workshops and seminars. Encourages all levels of nursing to attend and then share their knowledge with others.
  • Schedules and implements mandatory in-services for all departments as well as other facility, non-mandatory in-services deemed necessary. Acts as a liaison to other department heads in developing in-service programs.
  • Seeks ways to improve the technical and communication skills of all personnel and to motivate them to higher levels of performance.
  • Performs employee health screens for all departments on both new employees and yearly health screen updates. Maintains a monthly file of the above.
  • Plans, coordinates, supervises or teaches programs aimed at insuring optimal care of residents for all personnel on all shifts.
  • Maintains records of all in-service education provided in the facility in the employee education file.
  • Oversees individual employee education tracking.
  • Coordinates staff development/in-service education programs for all departments. Plans, coordinates, and conducts regular and special in-service training sessions for staff to familiarize them with new procedures, policies, equipment, and changes in resident care techniques.
  • Develops instructional materials utilizing facility policies and procedures, CDC guidelines, state and federal regulations, articles, etc. relevant to current standards of practice in long term care.
  • Provides reorientation training for professional nurses returning to resident care service and for nursing assistants.
  • Provides training / education for residents and/or family members as indicated.
  • Secures and maintains all instructional and audio-visual materials and equipment.
  • Oversees stocking and use in the employee First Aid Kit.
  • Alternates nursing On-call responsibilities with other RNs as assigned.
  • Represents the facility in all professional and community activities.
  • Demonstrate competency using current clinical software system.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Administrator or Director of Nursing.
