Job Title: Supervisor Leadperson 4 - Glass, Locks, and Doors
Position Function: The Glass, Locks & Doors Supervisor is directly responsible for all personnel and work in the department.Manage the department as a team leader in a manner that gets employees input, is customer oriented, and cost effective.Knowledge of maintaining and installing all plastic and glass fenestration, window sash and screens, and doors in the Wichita Public Schools. This includes, but is not limited to, doors of all types and the associated operating hardware.Knowledge of metal and wood sash windows, weather stripping, gymnasium equipment, bleachers, installation of all types of locks, locking mechanisms, safe repair and replacement of all broken glass.This position also oversees the Key Shop and must have knowledge in locksmithing, and identification and cataloging key systems.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position
Additional Duties: Perform other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor(s) of BGMS.
Equipment: The employee must demonstrate the ability to use various equipment assigned to the job position as needed. This position may require the ability to use iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Employees must always comply with WPS guidelines for equipment use. Use hand tools of the trade and related power equipment. Other tools that may be used include but are not limited to chop saw, drill press, genie lift, grinder, hand tools, key machines (cutters and stampers), ladders, mortis machine, power tools, sawzall, scaffolds, snow blowers, table saw, tape measures and tractors and trucks.
Travel: Travel between schools and to central offices will be required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Work in standard office/shop setting and school building environments
  • Ability to work indoors in extreme heat or cold and outdoors in inclement weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, or snow
  • Ability to wear proper safety equipment as required while performing the various tasks required for this position
  • Ability to work in confined or high spaces; some strenuous physical work
  • Ability to work productively in stressful situations
  • Daily schedule may fluctuate to accommodate deadlines an delivery of services
  • Limited (0-1 hour): Sitting, operating foot controls, crawling, lying down (back, side, front), and keyboarding/mouse
  • Occasional (1-3 hours): Below the waist reaching, overhead reaching, climbing/balancing (stairs, ladders, other), twisting at the waist, kneeling, and crouching (squatting)
  • Frequent (3-6 hours): Waist to shoulder reaching. standing, walking, rotation of head/neck, flexion (head bend down and head bend back), bending at the waist, forceful gripping, fine finger manipulation, and low impact vibratory tools (drilling/sanding)
  • Constant (6-8 hours): Total reaching and handling/grasping
  • Exposure to: Dust, odors, fumes, mists, and chemicals (caulk, fire retardant, paint, sealer, silicone, wet chemical, solvents, cleaning solutions)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and oral
  • Adequate knowledge of other building trades
  • Ability to work with figures for budget, material cost, percentages, etc.
  • Possess knowledge of proper use of tools and equipment
  • Strong ability to organize crews and work projects
  • Ability to see each assignment through to completion
  • Perform well while working under deadlines, work in an effective manner, have ability to perform a wide variety of tasks, changing assignments on short notice

Essential Performance Responsibilities:
  • Supervise, set, and lead by example the work standard of the department and personnel regarding quality, quantity, and customer satisfaction
  • Purchase all material and equipment for efficient unit operation, observing purchasing schedules and regulations
  • Assist in hiring and performance management of personnel
  • Accept responsibility for training, skill development and supervising team members
  • Assure compliance with all applicable safety standards
  • Review and assist employees with their goals in their Classified Employee Performance Appraisal
  • Maintain required data for unit function and accountability
  • Monitor and update the unit's long-range project plan
  • Ability to prepare, submit and monitor the unit's annual budget and operate within the approved budget
  • Implement effective/efficient methods for completing jobs on schedule and job satisfaction for both employee and customer
  • A combination of office work, time in the field, and meetings with administration comprise the primary environment for this job
  • The position requires after hours trips to buildings for a variety of concerns including meetings with building personnel and response to emergency situations
  • Perform mandatory snow removal
  • Attendance at required meetings and in-service training
  • Plan, estimate, and schedule unit work projects, along with work projects set and scheduled by the Design and Construction department
  • Prepare and submit the unit's annual capital improvement requests
  • Ability to read blueprints/drawings and make accurate material/supply lists and determine job time requirements from prints/drawings
  • Continue to improve personal and personnel job skills for effective unit operation
  • Keep unit supplies/material on hand
  • Check task requests for repairs and material needed
  • Possess a work ethic that is strongly oriented toward both efficiency and customer service
  • Responsible for keeping the district buildings safe and secure.
  • This position includes mandatory snow removal.
  • Will serve on a rotating schedule with other supervisors for immediate after-hours response to all Facilities related issues when required.
  • Keep the department clean and organized.
  • Maintain all vehicles, tools and equipment for the department.
  • Manage department budget.
  • Plan and schedule daily work for department personnel.
  • Responsible for stock and inventory for the department.
  • Supervise all department personnel.
  • Development and training for all department personnel.
Qualification Profile:
  • This position requires a High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of 5 years prior experience required
  • Computer experience required
  • Maintain a valid Kansas driver's license at all times throughout employment
