The Literacy Coach will play a critical role in improving literacy instruction and student outcomes across the elementary grades. This position requires a passion for literacy, strong instructional skills, and the ability to collaborate with teachers and administrators.

SALARY

Commensurate with certification and experience based on the Wicomico County Salary Schedule for Teachers. Includes benefits package.

HOURS

Full time 10-month position (190 contract days).

Contract Unit: This position is part of the Unit I (Certificated) bargaining unit.

FLSA: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS

Valid Maryland State Department of Education teaching certification with an ESOL endorsement.

Master’s Degree preferred, but not required.

At least 5 years of satisfactory classroom experience.

Evidence of successful professional development leadership experience.

Experience with various technology platforms.

Evidence of leadership and personal qualities necessary to work effectively with students, parents, and administrators.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Professional Development: Provide ongoing professional development to teachers on effective literacy instruction strategies, phonics, comprehension, writing, and vocabulary development.
• Instructional Coaching: Work one-on-one and in small groups with teachers to model effective literacy instruction, observe classroom practices, and provide constructive feedback to enhance teaching practices.
• Curriculum Support: Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive literacy curriculum that aligns with district standards and promotes student success.
• Data Analysis: Analyze student performance data to identify trends, inform instruction, and support teachers in using data-driven decision-making to improve literacy outcomes.
• Resource Management: Identify and provide resources, including books, instructional materials, and technology, to support effective literacy instruction.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with administration, teachers, and other instructional coaches to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
