Wieland is hiring a CI Manager. The The Continuous Improvement Manager will serve as a catalyst for change and a key leader in implementing the Wieland Operating System (Lean Management System) across plant operations and associated functional departments. By collaborating closely with plant and department managers, this role will drive the deployment of lean methodologies to achieve lasting improvements in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People (SQDCP) metrics. Utilizing strong leadership, coaching, training, and influencing skills, the Continuous Improvement Manager will ensure the successful integration of the Wieland Operating System. This role will primarily be based at the Monson/Palmer facility but will also support initiatives at the Warwick, RI, and Waterbury, CT locations, as well as other sites and projects within the division as needed.

 This role is located in Monson/Palmer, MA and will be hybrid. While this role is local, occasional travel to other locations will be required (15-25% travel). 

Responsibilities

CI Manager Responsibilities:

  • Train and Coach: Train, coach, and facilitate Lean/Continuous Improvement (CI) concepts and principles, such as the Toyota Kata Process, Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI), A3 Thinking based on PDCA, Problem Solving, Cultural Transformation, and Leadership Standard Work to plant and department managers.
  • Lean/CI Expertise: Act as a thought partner, providing lean/CI expertise to the Operations Manager and department managers to develop business and departmental transformation plans based on value stream thinking.
  • Deployment and Sustainability: Facilitate and support the Operations Manager and departmental managers in deploying and sustaining the Kata improvement process, developing Strategic A3s for the plant, departments, and/or SQDCP pillars, and driving the CI transformation plan to achieve strategic business goals.
  • Project Management: Drive all site equipment and automation projects from design through execution to commissioning of the equipment.
  • MDI Participation: Actively participate in MDI meetings at appropriate levels, coaching teams in the MDI process to identify problems, develop effective countermeasures, and sustain solutions.
  • Safety Excellence: Champion "Safety Excellence" by complying with all safety rules/processes, supporting safety elements, and promoting CI thinking to identify, solve, and sustain safety-related issues.
  • Lean/CI Training: Provide Lean/CI training and coaching to salaried and hourly employees on concepts, principles, and tools such as A3 Thinking, Practical Problem Solving, MDI Boards, Visual Management, 5S, Standardized Work, Value Stream Mapping, SMED, TPM, and other tools as needed.
  • Overcoming Barriers: Actively identify barriers to Lean/CI success and develop strategies to overcome them, gaining alignment with stakeholders.
  • Impact Measurement: Work with department managers and leaders to effectively measure and document the impact of process improvements on business results.
  • Strategic Growth Support: Support the strategic growth strategy by deploying the Wieland Operating System in acquired companies as directed.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other business unit CI Managers to drive process standardization and appropriate tool usage across other SV sites, ensuring consistency of processes and systems.

CI Manager Qualifications:

  • Incumbent should be self-motivated/driven and be able to create enthusiasm for improvement initiatives.
  • Leadership, influence, listening, communication, and ability to teach problem-solving skills to all levels in the plant are essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal communication skills and organization skills. Must be able to prepare and deliver presentations regarding project results.
  • High energy, data driven, and results oriented.
  • Proven ability to lead and facilitate cross-functional teams and implement improvements within an established time frame and sustain process improvements 
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing/Operations, Business, or an equivalent level of degree. MBA or master’s degree preferred.
  • 1-4 years of manufacturing experience that includes 2 years’ experience of facilitating continuous improvement using lean tools and methodology and driving cultural transformations in a manufacturing environment.
  • Lean Certification preferred, which includes both education and hands on ability to lead teams and implement improvements, will consider candidates with some experience and who are willing to obtain certification.
  • While this role is local, occasional travel to other locations will be required (50%-75% travel)
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes is a plus
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality
