Controller, Property Management

As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to play a critical role in the accounting activities for our large-scale apartment development company. The Controller is responsible for executing daily, weekly, and monthly accounting tasks and activities. The Controller will work directly with the CFO and Accounting department and is expected to maintain and develop accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

You will be responsible for the following areas:

Financial Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness in reporting to senior management and external stakeholders.

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee and or handle all day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger maintenance, and reconciliations.

Internal Controls

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of internal control policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Assist in the development and monitoring of the company's budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis, providing insights to support financial decision-making.

Audit Support

  • Audit Support: Collaborate with internal and external auditors, providing necessary documentation and support during audits.

Team Supervision

  • Manage and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support in their daily activities.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements, efficiency improvements, and automation of financial and accounting tasks.

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and company policies.

Other Areas

  • Cash management and ensuring invoices are paid on time.
  • Prepare and analyze cash flow projections.
  • Payroll processing.
  • Prepare metrics reporting and deck presentations for executive management.
  • Respond to inquiries from management regarding financial results, special reporting requests, etc.
  • Protect the organization’s value by maintaining confidentiality of information.
  • Promote effective cross-functional collaboration.

You have the following experience (at a minimum)

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, including prior experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with financial reporting, analysis, and audit preparation preferred.

You have the following attributes and interpersonal skills:

  • Strong analytical abilities with attention to detail and accuracy in financial data analysis and reporting.
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills to effectively manage and support a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders and present financial information effectively.

You have the following technical skills:

  • Proficient in Property Management Software, preferably Entrata
  • Proficient in Timberline and Buildtopia, preferred but not required
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Familiarity with financial reporting systems
