Our law firm is looking for the next associate attorney to assist in providing legal counsel to our clients. You will work closely with our senior partners and associates, conduct legal research, draft documents, and maintain client files. $85,000 - $105,000

Responsibilities:

• Keep files organized to make sure the most recent updates are accessible to other attorneys, paralegals, and staff
• Analyze conflicts in legal matters, advise clients on solutions, and negotiate on behalf of clients
• Attend court hearings or other legal proceedings, perform legal research, and work with senior associate attorneys to provide legal advice
• Collaborate with clients and senior associates and other staff to move cases toward resolution efficiently
• Prepare correspondence and legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, briefs, affidavits, motions, and settlement agreements for contract negotiations and proceedings

• Appear in court when appropriate and necessary upon completion of training
• Researching and drafting motions, legal memoranda, and briefs under the supervision of the firm's trial attorneys
• Second chairing trials and motion hearings in criminal defense and civil protection order cases
• Assisting in case investigations
• Communicating with clients effectively and with empathy

Qualifications:

• Has a Juris Doctor (J.D. degree) from an accredited law school
• Exceptional communication skills and problem-solving skills needed in order to work with all levels of staff and our clients
• Candidates must have passed the bar exam
• Willingness to learn from senior attorneys to meet our client needs and grow our client base
• Member in good standing and actively involved with the ABA (American Bar Association)

• Licensed to practice in Maryland required; additional license in DC and/or VA license a plus
• High priority is given to someone with previous experience in the Maryland criminal legal system
• Self-starter looking to gain significant experience in criminal and DUI defense
• Passionate about fighting injustices in the criminal legal system
• Spanish fluency is a major plus
