Job Title: Recreation Director Williams YMCA of Avery County

Reports to: Associate Executive Director

FLSA Status: Exempt/ Full-Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Recreation Director oversees all YMCA Recreational programs and staff. The position will provide supervision to recreation and athletics staff, giving superior program development and ensuring all programs support membership, increasing program enrollments, and enhancing the member and participant experience. This position ensures that their teams operate efficiently and employs a continuous improvement model to meet and/or exceed goals for member and participant satisfaction, financial management and overall growth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

-Oversee daily operations, department budgets, staff and scheduling in Recreation programming.

-Responsible for planning, implementation and oversight of all Recreational programming.

-Ensure a clean and safe environment at all YMCA facilities.

-Assure a fun, safe and quality experience that is in accordance with YMCA policies/guidelines.

-Leads Recreation Department operations to ensure membership engagement, acquisition, retention, and continuous improvement.

-Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Provides quality service and communication to members and program participants and ensures an excellent Y program experience for all participants.

-Establishes and expands Recreational Program activities within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

-Develops creative and innovative programs and service to drive membership sales, engagement and retention.

-Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

-Works to recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct personnel and volunteers as needed.

-Provide direct leadership and supervision to the athletics staff specializing in youth and adult sports seasons, camps and clinics with a focus on an integrated program strategy that supports membership.

-Responds to member and participant concerns in a timely manner, ensuring a positive program experience for members and participants. Anticipate and exceed expectations consistently throughout programs.

-Develops and implements program survey and measurement strategies.

-Generates and /or analyzes program enrollment and revenue to monitor and report on achievement of goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Candidates for the Recreation Director position must have an enthusiastic personality with an ability to develop relationships with participants, parents and other staff.

2. Proven results in increasing program quality and growth through exceptional planning and organizational skills.

3. They must have deep knowledge of Recreational Programming and a desire to use that knowledge to grow professionally with the YMCA.

4. They should present themselves in a professional, caring manner and have excellent communication skills. They should also learn and understand the YMCA’s mission and best practices in order to help foster and ensure all programming, sports practices, games and events have a mission driven atmosphere

5. Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Health Science, Physical Education or related field or equivalent experience required.

6. Two years related experience with supervisor experience preferred.

7. Requirements within 90 days of hire include completion of: Risk Management training: Child Abuse Prevention training; CPR; First Aid; AED.

8. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.

9. Must be able to pass drug test and background check and have clear driving record.

10.Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekend and holidays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
