Wilmington Country Club, a private country club located in Wilmington, is the oldest and most prestigious country club in Delaware. Its primary emphasis is on meeting the desires of its members, their families and their personal guests. We are currently seeking a full-time experienced Banquet Captain to join our staff and work under the direction of the Banquet Manager. The successful candidate must be organized, creative, enthusiastic and team oriented. Must have previously held the role of an experienced Banquet Captain and executed large events and must demonstrate solid examples of such. This is a highly visible role that must convey confidence and authority. A full benefits package, onsite parking, and free meals are part of the perks of the position. Candidate must be willing to work irregular hours consisting of weekends, evenings, and some holidays.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Responsible for assisting the Banquet Manager with special events including private functions, parties and other family social events to ensure proper and timely flow of service.
· Be an active lead in assisting staff with setting up of all buffets, stations, tables, back of house, clean up, etc., to the standards of the Banquet Department.
· Comfortable executing events at the highest level.
· Assist in the training and development of current and new staff members to clearly define the service techniques, equipment, expectations and sequence of service.
· Checks in servers, assigns stations and pre-post function side work duties.
· Inspects table place settings, including table linen, china, glassware, silverware to ensure that each element is clean, undamaged and attractive.
· Responsible for proper setting of buffet tables and other food service tables used for special events.
· Supervises the handling, storage, and security of all catering service equipment. Maintains props, glassware, china, silverware and communicates any issues with the proper managers. Completes equipment inventory as requested by the Banquet Manager.
· Responsible for the supervision of service throughout each function, as well as being actively involved in service.
· Handles all guest requests, as necessary; request the assistance of the Banquet Manager as necessary.
· Supervises clearing and post function clean up making sure that function rooms, pantry areas and storage areas are clean, and the equipment is cleaned and stored properly.
· Maintain high levels of interaction with existing members and guests
· Maintains consistent and courteous contact with the Banquet Manager and Chef to ensure complete, effective communication between food production and food service. Gives exact count after guests have been seated, advises as to last minute timing.
· Maintaining a positive attitude toward the Club and the job being performed.
· Regularly operates as a banquet server when needed; setting up, greeting and serving the guest, and breaking down the functions
· Inspect banquet areas at end of function to ensure all equipment is returned to its proper area and all areas are clean.
· Required to work irregular hours to include weekends, evenings, and holidays to oversee events. Mandatory workdays include (but are not limited to) Easter Sunday, Mother’s Day. Memorial Day Weekend, June Golf Invitation, July 4th, Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve.
· Attendance as scheduled is required. Reporting to work on time and in proper uniform/
· Available to assist in the a la carte operation as needed
· At least 5 years’ experience as a Banquet Captain
· Successful candidate must be professional and enthusiastic
· Knowledge of food presentation, and skilled in banquet and event service operations
· Experience executing large banquet events
OTHER REQUIRED NEEDS:
· Ability to prioritize, multitask and work independently.
· Commitment to work schedule
· Must be able to bend and ability to lift at least 25 pounds.
· Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
