Wilmington School of the Arts is Hiring a Middle Grades Teacher - (Grades 6 and 7) Near Wilmington, NC

Wilmington School of the Arts is a Title I, tuition-free, public charter school, which began in August of 2020. WSA offers a project based, arts integrated curriculum. WSA infuses music, language, dance, and visual art into our everyday academic curriculum. Multiple Intelligences are recognized and honored, as we believe each child learns differently, and we also emphasize learning self regulation and problem solving skills. WSA is a smaller, community-focused school with very active families and staff members. Our focus is on the whole child and meeting each child at their individual level.

We are seeking an educator who is excited to collaborate with a team, a diverse group of students, and the members of their home and community support systems.

Below is the description of duties for the role of Middle School Teacher. The position is a full time, 10-month, position. We are looking for two teachers who are able to teach the general education courses of: math, ELA, social studies, and science (and potentially Earth Environmental science, as well). Requirements and job description are included below.

All WSA teachers should align with our mission to inspire students to pursue excellence in academics and the arts by awakening and nurturing the creative spirit within each and every child. They should also be a part of our vision to enable and empower students to become strategic, problem-solving critical thinkers, lifelong learners, compassionate and empathetic humans, and community-conscious citizens.

To this end, we will strive to make sure all students will have the following:

  • Access to the curriculum programs decided upon by the WSA staff;
  • A rigorous, content-rich education, that includes meeting the needs of each child where they are;
  • An education delivered through multi-sensory avenues to reach each child’s specific learning style;
  • Select engaging and motivating content for students (incorporating students interests and cultures);
  • Vary teaching methods for whole group, small group, and individual instruction;
  • Ensure the correct instructional materials for each class or grade level, including any additional support staff and supplies that contribute to organized study units;
  • Assess, evaluate and record student performance using a variety of assessment methods;
  • Collaborate with parents for a full-circle learning experience that gives parents the tools they need to reinforce learning at home;
  • An environment that will equip our children to be locally competitive and globally conscientious;
  • A community of educators that value their own continuing education and strive to stay abreast of the newest studies and methods for effective practices

WSA has a unique curriculum which utilizes evidence-based instruction and principled practices. These curricula were carefully chosen by our administrators/staff and will be implemented with fidelity, by all kindergarten through seventh grade teachers.

  • Creating a safe environment for students to explore and to learn collaboratively;
