Windham Southeast Supervisory Union is Hiring an Automotive Technology Instructor (repair) Near Brattleboro, VT

Job PurposeThe Automotive Technology Instructor is responsible for providing a quality automotive program that successfully trains students in the field of automotive technology.Essential Job Functions: Is constantly aware of safety in the workplace; teaching students about the potential hazards found in an auto shop. Maintains an equipment and tool management system. Performs ongoing teaching responsibilities to include, but not limited to, classroom instruction, shop work planning, testing, student evaluation, and grading.Works in cooperation with others to: Provide maintenance of tools and equipment.Order supplies and equipmentCoordinate a daily scheduleProvide maintenance of tools and equipment.Order supplies and equipmentCoordinate a daily scheduleWhen appropriate, road tests all vehicles before releasing the vehicle to its owner.Is available to students for help outside the regular classroom time.Develops, teaches, and keeps current a curriculum involving engine performance that concentrates on the following areas: computer control, fuel injection, emission controls, ignition, and exhaust systems.Uses curriculum expectations provided by the Vermont Agency of Education as a basis for the program.Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the laboratory-type classroom where several kinds of activities may be taking place simultaneously.Must be kind and empathetic with students. Evaluates each students performance, knowledge, and skills; prepares student progress reports and employment references.
Develops lesson plans and organizes daily classes so that demonstration, instruction, and practice can be completed within the allotted time. Maintains records and makes required reports to the local administration. Updates curriculum materials on an ongoing basis as well as teaching methods and technical knowledge. Plans and conducts an instructional program that meets the needs of the students.
Assists with student cooperative and occupational work experiences. Assists students in locating appropriate job placements and is prepared to provide student follow-up as needed. Instructs students in the importance to employers of accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness, and good work habits. Instructs students in the use, care, and safe operation of equipment.
Makes minor adjustments and repairs as required. Maintains a record of pupil attendance and makes daily reports. Controls assigned district-owned equipment and supplies to prevent loss or abuse. Evaluates, selects, obtains books, instructional aides, equipment, and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory records.
Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during assigned work day.Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. Maintains records and makes required reports to the local administration.
