The Department of Administration, Human Resources Region 2 is currently recruiting to fill a Payroll & Benefits Specialist - Limited Term Employment position located at the Department of Corrections central office in Madison, WI.
Note: Candidates must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin in order to be considered.
Position Summary
This position provides professional, technical, and administrative payroll and benefits support within the Bureau of Human Resources Region 2 as assigned and performs a variety of duties related to bi-weekly payroll and fringe benefits.
Salary Information
The starting pay is between $20.00 and $27.04 per hour. The pay schedule/range is 81-05.
Limited Term Employment (LTE) does not permit attainment of permanent status however, it can provide participants with valuable work experience in a specific field of interest. The experience gained in these positions can be a valuable career development tool, and often provides participants with the training and experience that may be helpful in applying for a permanent position with the State of Wisconsin.
Job Details
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of application. Region 2 will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
Region 2 may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have the below:
Knowledge of payroll procedures and practices.
Knowledge of fringe benefits rights (e.g. health insurance, life insurance, catastrophic insurance, income continuation, optional insurance plans, retirement, workers compensation, unemployment compensation, FMLA, leave of absence, etc.)
Knowledge of computer systems such as PeopleSoft, payroll, time systems, fringe benefit, insurance, pension plan and other comparable systems.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel and Access.
Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.
