Wisconsin Department of Corrections is Hiring a Correctional Officer Pre-Service Director Near Madison, WI

Position Summary
This position oversees the development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of training programs and methods for the Facility Staff Training & Support (FSTS) training program and security related training. This position prepares and manages a large Pre-Service training budget, supervises Staff Development Program Specialists, and provides assistance to the Staff Development Director. In addition, this position evaluates the effectiveness of the assigned training programs, maintains programs standards, keeps leadership informed of the progress and status, evaluates performance of Pre-Service participants, conducts investigations and makes recommendations for program completions.
This position is also responsible for the coordination and oversight for security related training, including but not limited to: Security Basics and POSC for Non-Uniformed Staff. This includes working closely with facility staff to coordinate on-the-job (OJT) training, overseeing the administration of OJT and making recommendations for the interplay between training and institution needs.
Salary Information
The starting pay is between $54,787 and $90,396 per year, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the compensation plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code. The pay schedule/range is 81-03. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Job Details
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.
QualificationsMinimally qualified applicants will have experience:
  • Developing training curriculum to include lesson plans and training materials.
  • Delivering participation-based classroom training to adult professionals.
  • Evaluating training sessions and programs by measuring learning, content relevance and overall impact.
In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have experience:
  • Working in a supervisory role utilizing leadership skills and performance management strategies.
  • With team management related activities (establishing team goals and objectives, setting priorities, and delegating work, etc.).
  • Assessing organizational training needs and developing/implementing training sessions/programs to address needs.
  • Developing and delivering blended learning to include any combination of classroom, self-guided, on-line, virtual and hybrid learning.
  • Working in Corrections or in a security-related role.
