The Wisconsin Educational Opportunity Programs (WEOP) Team within the Office of the State Superintendent is seeking applicants for an Assistant Director position. In this role you will have an opportunity to lead federally and state funded college and career access initiatives, in partnership with internal and external stakeholders (schools, communities, families, etc.). The Assistant Director of the Wisconsin Educational Opportunity Programs (WEOP) is a critical component of the division leadership team and works under the general direction of the director of Wisconsin Educational Opportunity Programs, within the Office of the State Superintendent (OSS). The director and assistant director work as a leadership/ management team to provide leadership, facilitation, and supervision in support of programs and policies of the team, division, and department. This position has key leadership and administrative responsibility for the advancement of college and career readiness programs, grant and pre-college scholarship nominations, family and community resources, and support for youth and adults in Wisconsin. This position will supervise the approval of contracts, requisitions, procurements, grant writing, request for proposals, and annual performance reporting as led by project directors; supervise education specialist for specified regions in the areas of performance, professional career development, state and federal program implementation and progress monitoring in collaboration with the project director, creating policy and procedure flowcharts to guide operations for administrative processes within WEOP, and ensuring equity and civil rights for staff and students. The assistant director also serves as the staff liaison to other groups as assigned.
In each of the above areas of responsibility, the assistant director of the Wisconsin Educational Opportunity Programs provides leadership and management consistent with agency priorities, state and federal legal requirements, and recommends policy and program priorities. This includes maintaining effective working relationships with other program teams, as well as state and federal organizations or agencies involved with assigned program areas.

This position is in classification Education Administrative Director. Depending on qualifications, the salary will be between $47.00 - $53.00 per hour (approximately $97,760 - $110,240 per year). For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at time of hire. This position is in pay schedule 81, range 01. A two-year career executive probationary period will be required.
This position offers excellent benefits. The State of Wisconsin is a qualifying employer for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
This position will have travel expectations an estimated 10 times per year, varying on service needs.
This position has the option to work 80% remote with a requirement that the employee is expected to have access to secure high speed internet. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.
The position is headquartered at 1555 North Rivercenter Drive Suite 210 in Milwaukee, WI. Employees are required to report to the main office (125 S. Webster Street in Madison, WI) on their first day of employment. In addition, the employee may need to report to their headquarter location as operational needs require. Reimbursement for traveling to or from the employee’s headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.).

  • Developing, renewing, administering, or monitoring compliance with state or federal grants

  • Implementing program or continuous improvement processes
