The Division of Adult Institution is recruiting to fill a Building and Grounds Supervisor position. This position is based out of Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility (Milwaukee, WI).

This position provides oversight and supervision in all aspects of buildings / grounds maintenance and daily operations. This position serves as the first line supervisor for several Facilities Maintenance Staff, and may direct and provide oversight to the remainder of the employees within the MSDF Maintenance Department, including technical, trades, & PIOC workers and crews. This position establishes programs to provide staff training & development; performs inspections, investigates problem areas and implements any required corrective action to keep critical systems operating. This position is responsible for the administration, planning, implementation and supervision of Preventative Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance activities for MSDF to include buildings, support equipment, vehicles, grounds, etc. This position will also supervise, direct, and facilitate various programs related to buildings / grounds maintenance, services, repairs, as well as maintenance project planning, evaluation and management, including several service contracts, such as pest management, elevator maintenance, etc. This position will also determine monthly and emergency supply and equipment needs for the maintenance department, purchase maintenance supplies and services, insure that inventories are maintained, and assist with monitoring budget expenditures.
This position is in pay schedule/range (81-04) with an annual salary of $64043 - $77584, plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A 12 month probationary period is required.

Minimally Qualified Applicants Will Have Experience
  • Maintaining and repairing of buildings, equipment, system, and grounds in an institution or commercial setting 
  • Supervisory/lead worker experience (e.g. training, assigning duties, reviewing work, staffing process, interviewing candidates, hiring recommendations) 
  • Facilitating/managing various operational programs related to buildings/grounds (e.g. maintenance, services, repairs, such as a preventative maintenance program and contractor provided services)
In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have experience:
  • Establishing and maintaining safety training programs and safety policy implementations including fire codes, ADA accessibility, building codes, material handling safety, lockout/tag out procedures, confined space entry
  • With department/project recordkeeping, budgeting, and employee recordkeeping or other administrative duties
  • Planning and purchasing materials for maintenance projects
Special RequirementsMust have the ability to work within a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions, and in work areas which are occasionally noisy, as well as work in close physical proximity to Person In Our Care and other staff. Must have the ability to work 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours at any given shift based on daily operational needs (may include weekends, holidays, and on-call hours). Must posses a valid driver's license and maintain the qualifications for Wisconsin Fleet Eligibility. Must possess a valid State of Wisconsin DATCP Pesticide Applicator Certification for "Commercial Category 3.0 - Turf & Landscape" or eligible to obtain prior to probationary period ending.
