The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Bureau of Customer and Outreach Services, is recruiting to fill a Natural Resources Customer Service Representative vacancy at the Entry or Senior level, depending upon qualifications. This position would be stationed at the DNR Service Center in Janesville, WI. Given the need to work with customers in-person, this position does not allow for telework at this time.
The Customer Service Representative will work Monday – Friday from 8:00AM - 4:30PM for approximately 4-6 months for training. Upon completion of training, the hours will be Monday – Friday from 8:30AM – 5:00PM.
This recruitment may also be used to fill future similar permanent, project, and/or LTE vacancies.

Customer Service Representatives are assigned within the Bureau of Customer & Outreach Services, where you will serve as the Department’s primary point of contact for the majority of service requests and information inquiries made by members of the public, agency partners and staff. This is accomplished through face-to-face, phone, email and/or online interactions.
This position involves the licensing of customers seeking to hunt, fish, etc. and/or the registration and titling of recreational vehicles. You will provide information and assistance to the public regarding requirements and procedures for recreational licensing, and vehicle registration, and identification; determining and assisting the public in completion of proper applications and forms; in conjunction with the recreational vehicle registration responsibilities. Issue registrations and titles for all but the more complex considerations, typically involving multiple transaction types. The work involves the interpretation and application of state statutes, administrative rules, and departmental policies and procedures pertaining to licensing and/or vehicle registration and identification.
You will focus on the customers’ experiences, anticipate the customers’ needs, and excel at surpassing customers’ expectations, often using collaborative methods for service delivery.

Starting pay for Entry level is $21.23 per hour ($44,158.40 annually) in pay schedule and range 02-11.
Starting pay for Senior level is $24.82 per hour ($51,625.60 annually) in pay schedule and range 02-13.
Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A 2% General Wage Adjustment is anticipated to take effect June 30, 2024.
This position includes an excellent benefits package, including health care, vacation, sick leave, and retirement benefits. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Best-qualified applicants will also have experience with at least one of the following:
  • Interpreting and explaining laws, regulations, policies, procedures or other complex information in everyday language to an audience unfamiliar with the material
  • Providing ‘remote’ customer service (e.g., call center, web-based tech support, etc.)
  • Data entry (e.g., entering accurate detailed information into business systems)
