The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE (Limited Term Employee) – Forestry Technician Advanced at our Flambeau River State Forest, in Winter, WI.
This posting may be used to fill future similar vacancies.
This position will be under the daily direction of the Flambeau River State Forest (FRSF) Forestry staff and will assist with all aspects of forest management, conduct general property management functions, and perform routine maintenance of forestry-owned equipment on the property.
75% - Assist forest management personnel with timber management activities.
  • conduct forest stand reconnaissance and associated WisFIRS database updating
  • work with foresters to conduct timber sale establishment activities including: boundary line establishment, tree marking, volume cruises, and development of sale
documentation.
  • conduct cultural activities including: regeneration checks, plantation assessments, invasives species surveys/control, tree planting, etc.
  • assist with timber sale administration duties including: compliance checks, field scaling of forest products, timber stumpage invoicing, and closeouts.
15% - Assist with general property management duties on the Flambeau River State Forest
  • assist with facility operations such as general building maintenance, grounds keeping, and minor repairs.
  • work with forestry staff and contractors on completion of designated infrastructure projects such as road repairs, culvert placements, timber sale access, and
vegetation removal projects.
10% - Maintenance of forestry owned and operated equipment
  • perform routine and basic maintenance on atvs, utvs, mowers, trailers, chainsaws, etc.
  • schedule maintenance service for forestry fleet vehicles
This position pays between $19.00 - $24.00 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 06-14. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Limited Term Employment: This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.
LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.
Residency Requirement: In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

QualificationsIn addition to the required qualifications below, the selected candidate must be eligible to drive a state vehicle and meet the following criteria:
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a minimum of two years of licensed driving experience
  • Have not had three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years
  • Have no OWI/DUI violations within the past year
Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge of silvicultural principles and practices commonly applied to the forest types in the Lake States
  • Experience in forestry management activities such as timber sale establishment
  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision
