Job Role Summary

The Human Resource Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices.

*** THIS POSITION REQUIRES A STRONG EMPLOYEE RELATIONS BACKGROUND WITH A HEAVY EMPHASIS ON PROVIDING GUIDANCE TO MANAGERS ON COUNSELING AND DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS. ***

Associated Job Duties

  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Coordinate progressive discipline and coaching.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Maintain and communicate employee policies and procedures to comply with corporate culture and governmental regulations.
  • Communicate and coordinate performance management program. Provide guidance and counseling to management and employees.
  • Assist with conducting training sessions and present information; direct structured learning experiences; manage group discussions and group processes.
  • Partner with department managers to provide guidance and counseling on employee relations issues.
  • Conduct exit interviews and perform termination analysis to improve turnover ratio
  • Administer COBRA benefit to all eligible persons.

Associated Job Duties cont'd

  • Participate in organizing employee events and meetings with a goal of improving employee relations/morale.
  • Administer unemployment claims
  • Prepares billing and oversees payment of premiums and fees for each benefit plan.
  • Serves as administrator for the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), ADA and LOA. Tracks FMLA and provides proper notification to employees and supervisors.
  • Conducts employee meetings and arranges for enrollment of employees in optional plans. Conducts employee benefit seminars for local personnel. Revises and reissues all communications material on benefits from time to time. Advises and counsels management and employees on existing benefits.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor relations, organizational development, business, or related area; relevant work experience may be a substitute.
  • In lieu of degree, a minimum of 5 years of human resources or related experience
  • Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record for in-county travel.

Licenses/Certifications Required

  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or Equivalent credential preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles and procedures training, compensation and benefits, employee relations and negotiation and Human Resources Information systems.
  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for training, design, teaching, and instruction for individuals.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and employees
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions.
  • Ability to communicate oral and written information and ideas in speaking so others will understand writing with wide of knowledge and communication, as well members of outside organizations, agencies, and the public; ability to display patience, understanding, initiative, tact.
  • Knowledge of and skills in FLSA wage and hours regulations and job description design.
  • Ability to promote sound performance management including periodic performance reviews, progressive discipline, and coaching for all types of roles.
  • Proficiency in SAP, ADP, KRONOS, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office suite, etc.
  • Must be able to manage time efficiently, function under pressures of time limitations, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and ability to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events

  • May be required to attend meetings or perform work remote from the office setting
