Responsibilities: 

  • Assume responsibility for key aspects of projects and complete assignments with limited oversight, under the guidance of licensed professionals
  • Perform hands-on forensic investigations, condition assessments, and construction observations, which may include: documentation of existing conditions, application of nondestructive testing techniques, instrumentation, collecting data and materials samples, and preparing site visit reports 
  • Assist with development, implementation of, and interpretation of data from specialized field-testing programs associated with new or existing construction to understand the performance of structures and materials
  • Analyze field data and perform research
  • Review modern and historic materials, construction documents, governing codes, and design guidelines to facilitate analysis, problem solving, and repair design
  • Complete structural analyses using a combination of hand calculations and analysis software for a variety of construction materials, including concrete, masonry, steel, wood, and composites
  • Assist with drafting and preparation of conceptual, preliminary, and final client deliverables, including structural and architectural construction documents, specifications, and written reports
  • Interface with project teams, laboratory teams, clients, contractors, and other engineering disciplines

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or better in physics or engineering (civil, structural, or materials) from an accredited program
  • Entry level or up to five years of relevant work experience, including concrete materials evaluation and/or NDE applications
  • Solid foundation in structural engineering principles with demonstrated interest in the construction, investigation, and rehabilitation of various modern and historic structures, building systems, and construction materials
  • Effective technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proactive, team player mindset with willingness to take on various responsibilities, tackle new challenges, and learn new skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing demands, while maintaining a high standard of excellence, integrity, and attention to detail
  • Experience with structural analysis software, MATLAB, MathCAD, and AutoCAD

Physical Requirements:

This position requires visual acuity and listening ability. Individuals must have the dexterity to be able to operate office and field equipment such as computer, printer, fax, copier, telephone, voice mail system, and other office and field equipment. Requirements may also include:

  • Ability to travel and attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sites
  • Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instruments
  • Ability to safely work at heights, in confined spaces, and in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations, including outdoors with exposure to temperature extremes
  • Ability to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and other heavy equipment up to 50 lbs. 
  • Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other forms of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle

Annual starting base salary (gross): $87,500 to $122,000. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on several factors including consideration for a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base salary is one component of our total compensation package for employees.
