Woburn Public Schools is Hiring an Elementary Multilingual Learner (ML) Teacher Near Woburn, MA

District WideSchool Year 2024-2025The Elementary Multilingual Learner (ML) Teacher position (preK-5) is a full-time teaching position dedicated to delivering direct English language development (ELD) instruction to identified Multilingual Learners in the Woburn Public Schools. Responsibilities include implementing the ELD Curriculum based on the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework, providing scaffolds to support language development, and using data to develop and refine lessons to support students at various proficiency levels. Additionally, the ML Teacher administers required local and state tests, and completes all necessary compliance documentation. The ML Teacher reports directly to the Principal and the ML Director.
Role & Responsibilities
  • Implement the district ELD curriculum, aligned with the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework, to promote rapid English language proficiency development.
  • Develop lessons using the WIDA Standards Framework for various proficiency levels, focusing on the four domains of language (speaking, reading, writing, and listening), WIDA’s key language uses, and language expectations.
  • Remain current with state and federal regulations and policies regarding the education of ML students, particularly in ensuring equitable access.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, culturally and linguistically responsive classroom environment that facilitates student learning and encourages students to comfortably share their authentic selves.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation, including the assessment and identification of multilingual students, and other compliance-related documentation for ML students using relevant software (Ex. PowerSchool/Ellevation).
  • Utilize data (ACCESS, formative assessments, WIDA rubrics, etc.) and appropriate data systems (ex. Ellevation) to monitor progress in English language development.
  • Attend school-based meetings to support ML students’ progress and success in school.
  • Collaborate with SEI colleagues to support English language development across content areas.
Qualifications & Skill Set
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Required Licensure: Valid Massachusetts DESE Certification in English as a Second Language (ESL) appropriate for the grade levels being taught.
  • Ability to deliver effective instruction.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet student needs.
  • Ability to administer required student testing and assessments
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administrators.
  • Prefer candidates with experience working with students, colleagues, and families from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds
