About Your Opportunity You will work closely with Vice President of Risk Management and Senior Corporate Leaders to provide legal services and develop best practices, with a focus on project-related legal issues. Responsibilities include analyzing and supporting the negotiation of Company legal agreements, including client contracts and project vendor agreements. Reviewing proposal-related documents for legal and risk-management considerations. Managing periodic claims issues, through collaboration with others in the Risk Management Department, internal stakeholders, and outside counsel. Monitoring compliance with Company policies and procedures. Driving continuous improvement of legal practices across the Company footprint.
How You’ll Contribute Provide Legal Support by:
  • Analyzing enterprise-level contracts and supporting negotiations, as needed
  • Analyzing client contract documents and offering risk management guidance
  • Negotiating client contracts either directly or by providing support to Company designated representative
  • Providing legal and risk management services to support business development, prequalification, and preconstruction efforts, including review of prequalification, bid, and proposal-related documents
  • Offering legal analysis, risk management guidance, and negotiation support for project vendor agreements (subcontracts, professional services agreements, etc.)
  • Managing and monitoring company claims activity, in collaboration with the VP of Risk Management, including independently handling claims and interacting with insurance adjusters and outside counsel, as needed
Advance Best Practices by:
  • Developing and maintaining Company standard contract documents
  • Monitoring compliance with, and proposing updates and revisions to, legal policies and procedures
  • Providing training on existing, new and/or revised Company policies and procedures
Collaborate with Key Stakeholders, including:
  • Vice President of Risk Management to proactively address legal and risk management trends and design system improvements
  • Corporate Leaders and Operations teammates to negotiate and finalize contracts.
  • Risk Management teammates to administer insurance and surety programs; support vendor purchasing and prequalification efforts
  • Outside counsel and insurance professionals to address claims activity
  • Clients, vendors, and others outside Wohlsen, as needed
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and juris doctor degree
  • Minimum of three (3) years of legal experience. Experience in construction law, litigation, insurance claims, and/or contract management a plus. 
  • Knowledge of various construction industry contract documents and risk management considerations
  • Basic property & casualty insurance knowledge
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to professionally communicate and negotiate
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to meeting deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for continuous improvement, for the Company and individually
  • Orientation for collaboration and client service
  • Valid driver’s license
