Woman’s Hospital Administrative Fellowship Program

The Woman’s Hospital Administrative Fellowship Program offers a year-long, full-time paid position geared towards nurturing the next generation of healthcare leaders. Situated within a hospital focused on women’s health, this program provides fellows with a comprehensive understanding of hospital and clinic operations. By actively participating in projects spanning operations and finance, fellows refine their professional skills. Moreover, they partake in leadership development initiatives to foster their growth. The program offers exposure to various administrative functions, including strategic planning, marketing, human resources, and information technology, ensuring a well-rounded experience for future healthcare administrators.

Program Highlights:

This Fellowship seeks to cultivate strong leadership for Woman’s Hospital and Louisiana's healthcare industry by providing:

  • Direct mentorship under a senior leadership team member, collaborating on fellowship and career plans.
  • Development of comprehensive skills in operations, strategy, and finance.
  • Engagement in projects tailored to individual interests and strengths.
  • Exposure to strategic planning and diverse health system components such as marketing, human resources, and finance.
  • Establishment of mentoring connections with Woman’s executives and management.
  • Leadership development through participation in various professional growth activities.

Preceptor Relationships:

The Administrative Fellow has a unique opportunity to connect with executive leaders from both clinical and non-clinical parts of the hospital. To deepen these interactions and mentorship connections, preceptors in the Fellowship Program are carefully selected based on their commitment to the program, serving as mentors who offer ongoing professional guidance throughout the fellowship

Program Elements:

  • Orientation: In the initial weeks of the program, the fellow engages in informational interviews with Woman’s senior leadership team.
  • Committee Meetings: The fellow rotates among key committees to gain a broad understanding of Woman’s Hospital. By observing leaders, the fellow becomes familiar with various decision making processes and contemporary executive challenges.
  • Clinical Shadowing: The fellow can rotate through different clinical departments within
Woman’s hospitals and clinics. These rotations aim to provide exposure to collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff, and to observe frontline procedures and patient care. Rotations are scheduled at the fellow’s discretion.
  • Senior Leadership Meetings: Regular meetings with senior executives enable the fellow to discuss fellowship progress, professional development opportunities, and current healthcare issues.
  • Projects: The fellow and their preceptor select mutually beneficial assignments for both the fellow and Woman’s Hospital. Projects may include implementing process improvements, utilizing change management, developing business plans and proformas, implementing new systems/software, and managing construction renovations.
  • Evaluation: The fellow will receive ongoing informal feedback and formal evaluations from their preceptors annually.

Applicants should possess a master's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, public health, public administration, or an equivalent program.
